  • Hi Michael,

I'm a novice on editting pages on this site and don't really understand the structure yet, but I do have experience of working on other sites with other 'languages' (i.e.HTML, CSS, PHP).

I'm happy to take on maintaining this  page as @Sirebel has left, and have tried to do my best so far for v6.4. I believe the numbers to be correct, but I haven't figured out yet how to enter a car or series name so that it links automatically (note I understand parentheses use, I just don't know how to find a list or similar with correct text/description).  If you could guide me to a page that explains this, I would be grateful.

I also don't understand the table @Sirebel uses and assume that this somehow links to his account (looking at the code when editting).  Is it okay to use/copy this?

I'm happy to help elsewhere if you wish.

    • Hi SlatBH,

There are some guides to editing series pages here:

Sirebel designed the template with unnamed parsers, meaning each data item corresponds to a cell in the table, the data needs to edited in source view.

      e.g. {{User:Sirebel/R/carnew|6.3.0|NISSAN|R390 GT1|281|0|630|0|60}}

{{User:Sirebel/R/carnew is the name of the template
      |6.3.0 = the release number
      |NISSAN = The car make
      |R390 GT1 = the car model (Make + Model = Car)
      |281 = Win (Cost to upgrade to win in a SE/LTS)
      |0 = Upg
      |630 = Buy (full purchase price)
      |0 = Series
      |60 = Special
      }} closes the template line

Each table has a heading (User:Sirebel/H/carnew) and total (User:Sirebel/T/carnew)

I'm not 100% sure of all the data, as I didn't design the template, this can normally be revere engineered by looking at the data and the original series / special event/upgrade table. So for the NISSAN R390 GT1:

I hope this information helps. Let me know if you are stuck and I'll look in more detail.

    • Hi Micheal

Thanks I've taken a quick look at the editting pages and will take a more in depth look later.

Also thanks for the info about Sirebel's table.  I think I can reverse engineer it no problem. I was more worried that using it, with me as a different user, would cause problems. I was also a little worried Sirebel might be upset about copying his work.

The main question I had was about the series/car names used (I didn't see this in the editting links).  For instance from the page:

And for those that don't have the LTS cars:
      * Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4 Championship - 254Icon Gold to win LAMBORGHINI HURACÁN LP 610-4 for 50Icon Gold
      * McLaren F1 GTR Championship - 336Icon Gold to win McLAREN F1 GTR for 60Icon Gold

For example, from "Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4 Championship" is there a location I can find "Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4 Championship"?  How do I know exactly what to write (e.g does a list exist)?

The same applies for the cars e.g. "McLAREN F1 GTR" from the above code?

Perhaps I just have to copy and paste from elsewhere on the site?  No problem if this is the solution

(Edit: I think I have figured out my main question about the linking - copying and pasting worked, but things like underscore character are showing, which I would prefer not to be there)

I tried 'guessing' with a couple of entries but they didn't work, but perhaps I got the name wrong slightly...

Thanks for you speedy reply and for all the other work you do.  I'm sorry to bother you with something so small.

      Regards

      Steve

    • Hi Steve,

Sirebel originally created the data as a blog (User blog:Sirebel/Gold, Gold and More Gold), he made a copy as the RR3 Wiki:Update Gold Requirements to allow people to edit, as only admins can edit someone else's blog. Following the request by Luciano.cassiano.

Feel free to edit the project page, Sirebel would want that. the original blog will stay as the historical reference.

The template combines the car make and car model to get the car. |NISSAN = The car make |R390 GT1 = the car model (Make + Model = Car)

The car is combined in the template [[NISSAN R390 GT1]]

The table focuses on the cost of the cars to win in or buy during a release.

Has this entry in the table:

      {{User:Sirebel/R/carnew|6.3.0|LAMBORGHINI|HURACÁN LP 610-4|0|0|0|0|50}}

To start a new table all the new cars from this release are required (see the home page)

Plus all the cars from Flashback, click the flashback link on the home page and copy/paste the car:

      Any SE/LTS for existing cars:

Yes, copying and pasting are best. Tip to select a car: In source mode goto a blank line, type two square brackets [[ and start typing the car name, the editor will give a small list to autocomplete, as you type the list will shorten, if there is a typo the list will disappear, once the car you want is on the lists click it. The close square brackets will complete the link. Preview is also good for spotting broken links too. Once you have a good link copy the car into the template, removing the square brackets and use a pipe (|) to separate the make and model.

I'm around all weekend, if you have any questions please ask.

      Regards

      Michael.

    • Hi Michael

Thanks for your replies.  The 'tip' is what I was really looking for.  I didn't realise the editor was constantly looking at what you type to offer suggestions.  Very easy now!

I see the template on Sirebel's blog.  I will incorporate this on the RR3 Wiki:Update Gold Requirements  page later today or next week.

Just FYI, I'm not usually around much at the weekends, so editing is more a weekday activity for me...

Thanks again for your help.  I'm beginning to understand how things work.  Very clever

    • Hi Micheal

Thanks for moving it.  I prefer source mode as well. Generally the visual modes do things you don't want e.g. the Wordpress one that my wife and I use for our site.

I'll edit and complete the table now

    • Hi Michael

I added some numbers, but now I'm pondering what to do.

I have 2 doubts in trying to follow Sirebel's thought process.  First, how to deal with the addition of the C-11.  According to the strategy, this is 35Icon Gold cheaper than the 787B to complete its series.  So for me, who doesn't have the 787B upgraded enough, the C-11 will be the better route, but for others, there is no point in upgrading the C-11 more than the amount required to win. I have a  similar question about the CLK-LM but I think its values in the table should be zero as the strategy hasn't changed.

Second, which I discovered after completing the table, is how to deal with the new series that replaced the old ones (e.g. Endurance Legends, Group C 1988/91 seasons) and also the 3 new exhibition series that don't need any of the new cars to complete.  These account for the difference (I think) between the table values and the ones I calculated based on a spreadsheet I keep.

I suppose one answer to the last point is to add more lines to the table for the old cars with most values set to zero other than new series rewards.

I guess this release is quite complicated in this perspective!

      Your thoughts welcome

      Steve

    • Hi Steve,

For the RR3 Wiki:Upgrades Strategy For 100% Completion, it is based on new players starting this release. I would have thought Sirebel would use the same method, its impossible to work out a strategy for every player at different starting points.

Yes, the strategy can be a headful sometimes!

      Regards

      Michael.

    • Steve,

Looks good, thanks for picking this up, it's not easy sometimes. The idea of this blog is similar to the upgrade strategy but not the same. It is intended to track the extra gold requirement added to the game after each update so it doesn't necessarily cater to the new user like the upgrade strategy. It is supposed to provide two key bits of information:

      • The net cost of winning the new cars (i.e. maintaining 100% garage)
      • The net cost of upgrading to complete all new or amended series (i.e. maintaining 100% complete)

To work this out I capture the following data:

      • The cost of winning new cars
      • The cost of upgrading those cars to complete series
      • The rewards for special events, Time Limited Series, Gauntlets and flashbacks
      • The rewards for completing new or amended series

Because FM keep changing the format, the data has evolved over time and may not be consistent looking back. The key points though are:

      • Flashbacks shouldn't include any win or upgrade costs, just the rewards for completing them again (the assumption being that you won the car the first time around). For people that didn't win the car the first time around I add the data from the original series above the table. Maybe this should be in a table for flashbacks?
      • The win cost and upgrade cost are independent of each other (i.e. the upgrade cost doesn't subtract the win cost). This just keeps things simpler in the table and allows the totals to make sense.
      • The table doesn't include the standard rewards that everyone can get (mainly because they aren't that standard) but I usually work out the rewards from watching 5 ads per day and picking up all the daily rewards as an elite player just so people have an idea of the total delta of the update. This doesn't include level up rewards which whilst they will be reasonably consistent for every player (ignoring team and OMP) are much harder to calculate until the end of the update.

If you have any questions then just post them here and I'll try to help. I still check the wiki every now and again just to see how everyone is doing so replies might be a bit slow but you will get one eventually.

Oh one thing worth mentioning, there is a totals table at the bottom. You need to add a line to it for each update. It calculates all the totals automatically.

    • Thanks Sirebel,

That makes it clearer, basically, its based on a player starting from the beginning, but not including any sales.

      Hi Seve,

I've created a blank template ready for v6.5, if you copy it to your favourite editor (e.g. Notepad++, I've recently been converted to MS Visual Studio Code) you can have a template ready for each new release. Or create a personal sandbox (e.g. User:SlatBH/Sandbox01) and paste.

      Regards,

      Michael.

    • Thanks Sirebel and Micheal for your answers.

Micheal, I use a Mac so use Text Wrangler as my text editor... I'll take a look at the template, but going forward I don't think you need continue.  You have enough other stuff to do!

I'll add 6.5 info during the week once it becomes available. Obviously, it won't be complete for a while.

Sirebel, until late yesterday I hadn't scrolled down to the bottom of the page so only then noticed the totals table.  I know I have to update this and will do soon. Also, thanks for your description, which I think I understand.  Yesterday, when updating I tried to follow what you had done in previous releases so think I understand your logic.

One question though.  Last release the C 11 was added and its win cost is easy.  However, it changed the strategy (I think) replacing the 787B to win its series - 35gc less. (I'm not certain as the series changed and my 787B is not upgraded enough at the moment to complete its series).  However, I didn't include C 11 upgrade costs in the table as my thoughts are that this page recrods gold added and if the 787B had already been upgraded, so the upgrades for the C 11 would not be needed.  Is my logic correct?

      Regarding:

      • Flashbacks shouldn't include any win or upgrade costs, just the rewards for completing them again (the assumption being that you won the car the first time around). For people that didn't win the car the first time around I add the data from the original series above the table. Maybe this should be in a table for flashbacks? Understood
      • The win cost and upgrade cost are independent of each other (i.e. the upgrade cost doesn't subtract the win cost). This just keeps things simpler in the table and allows the totals to make sense. This confused me for a while but I think I have my around it now

Thanks again both. I hope after this first effort, I need not bother you.

      Regards

      Steve

I just updated the totals page and now realise that I need to change the way I have done something. Writing text notes about new series for old cars won't work with the automated total. I will change later

I've prepared what I can for 6.5 in my sandbox based on the EA notes .  Is it okay to copy and paste it over to main page once the update goes live?

Anything else I can help with?  Anyway, I'll enter some series info if others don't get there first

      Thanks

    • Hi Steve,

Yes, as it is a project page confirmed data can be used.

Article pages have been created, as outlines and locked for editing. I'm working on the strategy for next release, based on release notes, not allot more to do until the release.

      Thanks,

I saw that stuff existed but not visible yet. I used it as well... The EA info must ease your and others workload when a release arrives.

I'll copy across tomorrow or Tuesday depending on time release arrives

      Thanks

    • Hi Steve,

For release v6.5 the admins and I use the release data and build up a google sheet, feel free to copy the car names. Yes, it's much easier to have the release data in advance, FM occasionally gets the data wrong, so we still need to check everything in the game.

The car names used to be a pain, now they re all capitalised the names are normally right now.

      Regards,

      Michael.

    • Hi Michael,

Before you wrote, I was rummaging around the site and saw the google sheets for the first time. A lot of work.

I also came across sirebel Time trial page that is marked for deletion. I'm currently wondering if I take it on as well.  I'll think and let you know. Gathering the data is painful given scrolling in the game...

Lastly, I just remembered that I will be travelling to the UK around time of next release (v6.6) so my update might be delayed some days, but I will do it.

      Regards

      Steve

PS no need to reply and thanks for your time and being patient with all my questions

    • RR3 Wiki:Time Trial Participation is an easy one to add data, I was making a point, by marking it for deletion, if people find the information useful they should help edit.

I've added all the time trials. I create RR3 Wiki:All Series, so I already had the time trials in a sheet. I don't have the times, although as I'm at 100% (until later), I could fill in some data, I haven't got time to fill them all.

The method is the similar to the WTTT template, the detail are here: World Time Trial Tournament Tracking. The template needs the player's group, No.players, No.to next group and Date updated. Some need a car added too. As long as the player isn't in the group A.

      Regards,

      Michael.

    • Hi Micheal,

I looked at the template last night and the one thing I couldn't figure out is what is the 'no.players' exactly and/or how to find it.  Is it total number players in say group B?  The rest as you say is easy.

I saw a post by someone ([[mugwumps]??) that stated scroll down time trial (world tab) to position one group B and use this.  I imagine you then need to continue scrolling to find the last player in group B and do some subtraction to perhaps get 'total No. players'???

I honestly don't think you or the other admins should feel in any way obliged to enter the times, unless of course you want to!  I also totally understand your point asking others to enter data.  I'm happy to enter data as and when I have time if others are also willing to help

Maybe I should post something similar as a comment at bottom of said page!

      Thanks again

If you have a spreadsheet you might be able to auto-create the Wiki-template data for the page.

If you're using Microsot Excel on Wiindows then you could use Power Query to do it for you. Alterniatvely, depending on your programming skills, you could use VB.

    • Sorry, did type a reply last night but got tied up playing with 3D rendering again. If only I could get someone to pay me to do that for a living.

You look to have the hang of it and to be honest, if you are maintaining the data then you can do whatever you like with it.

      The difficult ones are:

      • The price to win the car is higher than the upgrades needed for series completion. The table doesn't work very well then. You filled in the MERCEDES-BENZ CLK-LM much as I would have but really it should show 0 as the 100% completion delta as you don't need to even win the car to maintain 100% completion
      • The MERCEDES-BENZ C11 situation is a new one on me. I think you did it the most sensible way. Did you capture the recompletion bonus though? Was there one?

I'm sure there are other grey areas but I forget right now.

Thank Sirebel, I'll think about your comments and amend as appropriate.

I saw the comments about Brands Hatch, I'm with you.

      EDIT:

Either I'm being stupid, I misunderstand something or I changed the table after you looked at it (I added many cars to account for rewards acquirable(for totals table accuracy), when before I wrote this as simple text).

You said "You filled in the MERCEDES-BENZ CLK-LM much as I would have but really it should show 0 as the 100% completion delta as you don't need to even win the car to maintain 100% completion". My question is what column are you referring to? I think you mean the 7th titled "100%". As this is calculated, I'm not sure how I can force it to be zero. I believe the 5 first columns to contain correct values

With regards the recompletion bonus for MERCEDES-BENZ C11, there wasn't one, but I did capture for 2 other series. As I'm not 100%, recapture could become a problem for me in the future though.  I'll of course keep an eye on comments for such series.

      Thanks
