Formula E Time Trial is upon us, lets do a table of where we are.

Also this gives us a place to talk about how to get round.

      Loading editor
    • What is the challenge?  I haven't seen info about it and don't have any sort of notification from FM.  Is it a team event?

        Loading editor
    • It's a Time Trial, opens tonight at midnight GMT and runs for a few days, pretty much be the same as last one with Hong Kong being the track.

        Loading editor
    • It's confirmed to be HK again?  Blech.  More wall-riding.

        Loading editor
    • Not confirmed. It's a guess on my part that :)

But yeah agreed wallriding kills the spirit of the game.

        Loading editor
    • I spent many hours on the last HK event.  I'd much rather be doing a new track rather than a deja vu event, so I probably won't be so dedicated to it this time.

        Loading editor
    • yeah it does need to be a different track this time, not sure what kind of interest it'll bring since the cars are hated so much anyway.

        Loading editor
    • No doubt a "treasure trove" of gold will get people interested!

        Loading editor
    • Last time I think it was 50GC or 100GC for the times most people on the wiki could run.  The reward made it worth putting in a real effort.

        Loading editor
    • Yeah, the payout last time was nice.  Maybe BH this time :)

        Loading editor
    • It's HK again.....

        Loading editor
    • Are these cars worth the 140 Icon Gold each or is it one of those things where one day when your garage is down to NASCAR and Formula E missing, you pull the trigger and get them? I know that the return on the series is terrible.

Get ready for a LOT of complaining about wall rides and "cheating". FM didn't change a thing, wall rides still work.

Because it is treated as a wall collision. The friction between the car and the wall will scratch your car.

      Wall riding = cheating

Clean racing = No crashing, no off-track, no wall riding

So basically you have to maintain your car in one piece to qualify. Like I did in the previous Formula E TT Tournament, racing as clean as I can.

And here's hoping the next update doesn't allow for wall riding in Time Trials...

I did the wall bounce, wall brake & wall ride in my run.

Wall bounce is just before 1st corner. Gently hit green left side wall while braking, throw the car sideways right, hit the wall in front of you with left side while full throttle. Not too hard for me.

Wall Brake: Drive close to left side wall. Brake and then turn into wall, turn hard once contact is made. Steer away and get full throttle as you slow down. This one often goes wrong!

3rd, big corner is a full-on wall ride. Need to very gently contact the wall right before the corner. So you hit the wall on your left with your front end, then throw the car hard right and stay that way until you're out of the corner. This one is easy for me.

You really can't beat someone on the first corner without that wall bounce. The second one isn't all that advantageous. Even the third one is a bit questionable. I'm not sure that anyone can get group A without some sort of wall trick, but I look forward to seeing what Speed Junkie does. I'm happy to sit in group B and not fight through all of this!

It is as usual with the Monkeys. Take something that is already working in the game and mess up its code when you implement it elsewhere.

      Nice time, btw.

It could also be that you are being pushed up the pyramid, as more people are posting times slower than yours than are posting times better than yours. I always usually move up a group by the end of WTTT simply because the number of slower participants increases, and my percentage improves.

But you can still run it with its base 33.x PR and rank around group F (5 GC) to E (10 GC). I'm close to E after just two attempts so why not take 10 GC for no real investment in any terms (R$, GC and time spent)? :)

I'm currently sitting in group E with R$ only ABT, 52.706 without using the walls, 2.3 secs from group D.  I'm sure a 50.x is possible without any wall tricks

Interesting, first it showed my 48.257 time in group B.

Now 47.846 and appearing in group C. Something messed up in the game screens i think.

Using fully upgraded ABT, no wall rides used also. Trying get into group B, i'm 0.223s short. I couldn't go through last 4 corners perfectly yet, hate this circuit.

    • Put in a quick 46.807 wallriding the first turn, which is similar to what I did in the last 3(!) times this event was run.  Then I spent a bit of time trying to master the other wallrides and still couldn't get them to work.  Then I remembered that driving vacuum cleaners into walls is not why I play this game and went off to do some MP4-X ES.  I guess the Monkeys felt there was too much awesome in this update so they had to throw this and the guantlet in to balance it out.  I'm not wasting any more time on this.

I'm in the high end of the C group. I managed to peel off 0.1 sec off my time and the following screen put me into high B (which I was surprised by). Now I look at the rewards screen and I'm still in C. I think C is right. But this is about the 3rd time I've seen it report me in a class higher than I really am.

    • Does the top 40% mean 40.00% to 49.999% or does it mean 30.01% to 40.00%?

If the former, then there have been ~107,235 participants in this time trial so far.

If the latter, then there have been ~142,977 participants.

That seems fairly healthy. That means about 50,000 more participants that have set times in all 4 stages of the WTTT.

I played Strikers 1945 World War, and the percentage system of rankings seems to lean more to the latter.

So assuming I'm at top 25% in this TT Challenge, the criteria would be a maximum of 25% before the next rank (Top 20%, which is a maximum of 20%).

Then I changed my setting to all assists off n tried to copy his line.. for first several times it becomes invalid time.. but then in one of my attempts it is not but I made mistakes on the following corners.. after several more attempts I get use to know how to do it.. I can cut almost 1 s at the first corner only.. then after first corner I go back to my usual setting tilt A SA high BA low TC off.. I could set 47.490.. I can't believe I could get into group B only by slamming the wall of the first corner! However, somehow it feels not right..

Try to alternate turning the music and sound from 0 to 10 and back to 0, then turn it back to 10. I did it and it worked...

And you can move up in rank by doing nothing if lots of players post times that are slower than yours. Say you are 10th out of 100 players, you are in the top 10 percent. Now 900 new players record times that are slower than yours. Now you are 10th out of 1,000, or top 1%. No, it's capitalism. Kleptocracy is where you have a corrupt government. It isn't our governments that are getting rich, it is the capitalist. The fact there is a large overlap between the two is purely coincidental I'm sure.

That isn't a lie. The other teams are in the game, you just can't race them. They are the bot cars.

I see in this thread that the ABT is mentioned a lot. Is it preferred over the other two due to its improved acceleration (but worse breakung)?

        Loading editor
    • They all have subtle differences and the ABT tends to be the one I use but the Renault seems to be favoured by some. I've rarely seen the NextEV used but then I don't pay that much attention. It makes no difference strategically which one you upgrade as they all need to be upgraded at the moment.

    • With about a day and a half to go, times seem to be reaching an equilibrium.  My first, safe lap was in group E.  That time dropped into group D without me doing anything.  I actually tried to run fast laps yesterday.  I dropped 2 seconds to 49.2.  Mostly using the ABT.  I also tried the other 2 cars, but got the fastest time with the ABT.  I probably ran about 10 clean laps.  No wall-riding.  I messed a little with steering sensitivity, settling on 6.  TC and steering off.  Brakes low.  I know I should turn brakes off, but I don't have the patience or tenacity or focus to learn all the braking points.  My fastest time toggled between group B and C for most of yesterday.  Today it has settled in C and hasn't budged.  Time to next rank has also held steady.

    • Hello everybody, my first time on Friday was 50.025, later that day I managed to get down to 49.7, after numerous attempets on Saturday morning I did 48.5 and finally got to 48.1.

I believe I can get it down to 47.9, (on my 48.1 lap the beginning of the lap was slower then my previous best lap, and before getting to the final turn I was 0.3 faster but while going trough the last turn and entering the straight I lost some time and only improved by 0.1s).

I did some laps with the ghost of the fastest names on the board and they crash the wall in turn 1, and their cars gain speed with an impossible acceleration. There must be a lot of cheating at those top places. I would say that everybody inside group A is cheating, and maybe in group B aswell.

I believe that anything below 47.0 is physcally impossible.

Looks like FM deleted some people. No times under 45 are left.

As far as anything under 47 being cheating, no way. It seems like you are referring to hacking, as you mentioned impossible acceleration. Some certainly do hack. But many more do not. I'm in the top 500 and I've never hacked. I've had a few group A runs, but then blew it on the 2nd last, or last corner. Driving me crazy!

EDIT: Been following RaduTan's ghost for ½ hour. 1 out of 20 times I beat him out of turn 1 and stay in front by a hundredth or so until the next corner. ONCE I beat him to the chicane, but man he has a perfect line through there! All this is to say that he's not hacking and he has an awesome time. I still lose too much time on the 3 corners after the big mid-lap corner.

I petition for this "Luca D." guy to be banned from the game. One reason of which is that he set a lap of Le Mans in around 30-40 seconds when it should be a minimum of around 2 minutes and 30 seconds (it is possible with a fully upgraded MP4/X). My best time at Le Mans is mainly on the 2:40s with a 919 Hybrid.

But speaking of RaduTan, his fast times are a good example of clean laps.

There are some players who post times slower than you, moving you from Group E to Group D, then there are players who post times faster than you, pushing you out of Group D back to Group E, and then there are players who post slower times, returning you back to D, and then there are faster players, pushing you out of D to E.

Imperial Diecast you can test it out yourself. I am definitely not a hacker; I can't even access my notification file from iOS, but I watched one of the videos and tried it and sure enough, no red flags. My times were worse than the time I set clean, but needless to say it is possible. As Mugwumps said, it is an issue with FMs coding, a bug, unless it is an intended behavior, but definitely not a hack.

For me it's simple, I follow them. At HK I can beat RaduTan out of the 1st corner 1/10 times. I've beaten Radutan up to the chicane and been within 1 car length behind him by the big 180 turn 1/100 tries. If he hacked there's no way I should have kept up let alone been ahead. He kills me in the mid-lap180 turn and the 3 corners after that!

It's all about HOW you hit the wall. I am shocked at what you can get away with sometimes for contact. tap the wall or barrier in some corners and I'm DQ'd. Huge smash in others (after the prior slight tap) and I'm fine. I've had some crashes that stopped me dead and no DQ (although that ruins my lap).

The trick is to slightly tap the wall right before you make major contact. I can slam very hard into turn 1 as long as I make slight contact with the side wall right before that. There is absolutey no hacking required.

There's only a few tracks in the game where this actually helps you. In all tracks you have to be a very dedicated and disciplined driver to place high. There are mant top racers that run clean (no hacking). They've just put in the hours to find the best lines and braking points. They sharpened their skills to push the car to it's limits.

For instance: I thought one guy was hacking because he drove through the chicane at HK so fast. Then I realized my line was wrong and you barely need any brakes at all there. Next thing you know, I gained 3/10's of a second! But you have to drive dreadfully close to the walls. One TAP there and it's a DQ.

What do you mean by slingshot?? I understand that to be a drafting term, as in "slingshot maneuver". However there is no drafting in any WTTT.

      EDIT: I meant a 3/10 second gain, not 3/100!!

I think maybe they mean how the car follows the contour of the wall and you accelerate out faster onto the straight than if you broke and turned.

Next thing you know, I gained 3/100's of a second! But you have to drive dreadfully close to the walls. One TAP there and it's a DQ.

Agreed.. out of curiousity (I know I won't be able to beat him or even to match him), I have tried to challenge Mario B at PTT with FUed Viper.. surprisingly, I could match him until before the first hairpin.. if he is cheating by modifying the car stats, then he should be leaving me from the beginning.. So I believe that most of the top driver are not cheating or hacking.. They have sharpened their skills by finding the perfect lines, breaking points and understand every cars behavior over time.. btw, anybody knows why Mario B is no longer participating in this TT?

Uhhh.. Surely you'll understand better braking and grip will have a significant impact on lap times. And when modified in a subtle way, it's practically not visible just by looking at a ghost. You might think some people are not hacking, but they might be..

      yes! exactly!

and this also happens now on suzuka wttt... last night after dozens of tries i was 0.9 secs ahead in the green, i thought i had the best line trough the esses, best run so far, had a lucky run, thought thats the one - and then i saw the time +0.00.001 ... WHAT!? and after every good run when i shave half of sec or so, i cloud save etc... even when i exit the game and enter again the previous ghost time is still far back from my best time. sometimes its frustrating bcs i want to see if i did the better line when im looking at ghost car, where can i improve, but when its behind me im more focused on escaping the ghost and therefore i make mistakes on some runs... the only logical explanation is maybe the servers are "hot" at that moment so they dont update the ghost time that frequently...

i get the glich from groups moving me from one to another and back again, there`s nothing i can do :)  (i hope when event is finished they give me a higher one LOL)

      That is not what I said, you misquoting me to suit your own point. Anyone can keep up at the start, so that is not the point. Here is EXACTLY what I said;

"I've beaten Radutan up to the chicane and been within 1 car length behind him by the big 180 turn 1/100 tries."

The big 180 turn is over half way through the lap, FAR from the start. That's me either beating or hanging with him through 5 corners. Many people have attested that RaduTan is not cheating. That's why I used him as an example. However, those who want to yell "cheat" are never satisfied with any amount of facts.

      FINALLY!!

After hundreds and HUNDREDS of tries... I got into group A with a time just over 45.9 seconds. I used 3 wall maneuvers. The guy that was top in Group B only used the 1st wall ride. He was very fast through the first 2 corners of the track. I gained time on him through the chicane and the corner just after it. Then the big mid lap 180 wall-ride gave me a little more time. However the biggest thing for me was getting a better line for the last 4 corners. For some reason those are really hard for me. I had a good 20 runs where I lost 0.5 seconds on the ghost of the other racer in just that section after the mid lap 180. Now I just hope my time is good enough to stay in group A.

    • Not sure it's worth it Tonic8080. From what I can tell:

      • Group A - Top 0.1% - 100Icon Gold
      • Group B - Top 1.0% - 50Icon Gold
      • Group C - Top 5.0% - 25Icon Gold

I stuck it in Group B easily but you can probably stick it in group A without too much trouble. Because of the number of participants, group B is nearly as big as it is in most WTTT events.

I actually think they got banned. MaRio B. was the top time, and now they are no longer on any of the WTTT lists. However Luca D. is still there... Hmm...

I think Luca D. is making his cheating look less obvious, eg. with higher grip. I can remember I was looking at his ghost in the Porsche test track and he made his turns very very fast without skidding...

The cut off line for Group A keep dropping, even though the group is growing. With 24 hours to go, Group A was at 333 racers and the time to beat was 46:110. Now with 8 hours to go it's at 349 racers and the time to beat is 46:080. If you want to stay Group A you should aim for a sub 46 second time.

Personally, I wish they'd use the same breakdown they do for the WTTT (which is A=0.1%, B=5%, C=10%, D=20%, E=30%, etc.).  But, I bet they are adding the 1% rank in there due to how many players have at least one of the Formula E cars Fully Upgraded due to the massive sales they had on upgrades in the recent past.

This is FM we're talking about after all, they don't want to give the higher prizes to too many people.  They're much happier giving 25GC or less to most players and letting the top players get the 50 and 100GC prizes (top 1% only in this case, if the ranking holds true).

I wish they would use the WTTT ranking for this event, so I could have 50 Icon Gold, with B being top 5% but nope, DENIED.  This is just another example of the monkeys nitpicking. The mid level players will never break through because every decision is made to make the already rich even richer, (Speed Junkie and RaduTan) and the poor even poorer. (pretty much every player who started in 2016-now) Even though I have no cracked into C in a WTTT, I would love if they would use a new ranking that involves the top 1% getting a big reward like the example below. A player that just misses on the top 100 shouldn't get the same reward as someone who gets 4,000th

      Group A top 0.1 % 300 Icon Gold

      Group B top 1% 200 Icon Gold

      Group C top 5 % 100 Icon Gold

100GC for positions 11-1000 (more for the top 10, of course)

      50GC for 1000-10,000

With just under 400,000 players, the top 1000 was ~top 0.25% and top 10,000 was top 2.5%.

That makes this round more generous.

Depends on what you are referring too.  Worth it for GC, depends who you are an where you are in the game.

For me, I have all cars and have 100% of the career series finished.  I am only 68% of the Exclusive Series finished, but all cars there are FU and ready for me when I get to them.

So if running for GC?  No not worth if for me as I dont really need the GC, I have nothing left to spend it on.  But I ran it for fun to see how I stack up and to accomplish personal goals.  So from that stand point, yes, it was worth it.  Gave me about an hours worth of fun total.

    • They coded it differently, it was like one of the sale or car repair notices that drop down, that then took you to a dedicated reward screen. It probably had to do with starting The Gauntlet right after the end of the FETT.

Interestingly, not a peep out of folks for not getting paid at the end of the event. Everyone got paid what they expected!

I usually see people upset with how unfairly or didn't get paid at all due to some bug. Kudos to FM/EA getting that part right.

I know I know- Kept jumping in and out of different class winnings (e.g, C to B, back to C again). But in the end, I think they got it.

Keep in mind, sometimes the complaining about things like that was actually caused by operator error.  Dont get me wrong, I am not trying to take away your props to FM.  Its just I dont always assume that when I see things like that here, I dont necessarily always subscribe to the conspiracy theorists that FM out to get them.

It was hard to notice, a fine blue runner right underneath the user stats icon in the top left. Are you sure it's not just being overlooked?

Look at top left of screen. Click to check your Notifications to see if it is still there.

A ticket will succeed if you have screenshots from right before the event (or show your latest progress in the event) ended. I was surprised at the number of people still who didn't have problems. We normally hear of thos en-mass.
