Strategy

Real Racing 3 is a massive game designed by FireMonkeys (FM) to make you want to spend real money on R$ and Icon Gold. Many in this Wikia community have posted comments what they have managed to reach the end of the game without spending any real money. The bottle neck currency is Icon Gold. Methods to slow bots down

Track Recommended method to slow bots Damage Taken
Autocross Each time you run an Autocross event, set a slow time of of 4th or less, either retry or continue and re-enter. If you retry ignore the bot's names, that splash up before the race, they will be changed at the end of the race, you will notice, after each time of running, the target time is increased. If continuing doesn't increase the bot's time try repeating and vice a versa.

Do not set a low time at the line, tilt B will give better control to coast before the line, if you are too quick or brake and wait at the line, smashing the time will increase the AI.
Minimal
Cup
& NASCAR
As soon as the race starts, pause, retire, confirm, either retry or continue and re-enter, if you retry ignore the bot's names, that splash up before the race, they will be changed at the end of the race. Also ignore the bots times on the final screen too, they are based on an average lap time, as you quit their times are based on a standing start, as an average. Instead use the times as a guide, with each retry or continue the bots times should increase. If continuing doesn't lower the bot's time try repeating and vice a versa.

OR If you have a broken car run the race a few times, each time you lose you will still get R$ and Fame, place 4th or less, repeating or continuing and re-entering will lower the bot's.

Once ready to go, get to 1st place as quickly as possible and try to slow the bot's down, either spin them out or park in sharp bends / chicanes and stop them passing. By setting a low time, but still coming first, it's still possible to still lower the AI of bots, think about a Time Trial time, if you set a set a slow time it lowers the AI.

Minimal /None.
Drag Race Start the race, press go and leave the car is first gear, do not click repeat, as this will repeat the current race, against the same bot, instead choose continue, then either retry or continue and re-enter. You will see the opponents will change to lower ones.

Once ready to go, don't undo the lowing work by setting a fast time, instead use the gears to slow the car, once passed the bot go up through the gears, but watch the bot doesn't speed up / close the gap, or if close to the line go down a gear to brake.
Minimal
Elimination Elimination events are one of the best opportunities to lower the bots AI, deliberately lose a few times, do not move at the start (Tilt B), wait for the 20 second timer to run out, then repeat or continue and re-enter. You will see the opponent will change to lower ones. If you retry ignore the bot's names, that splash up before the race, they will be changed at the end of the race.

Once ready to go, get to first place and slow the bots as per the cup event.
None
Endurance Endurance events are one of the best opportunities to lower the bots AI deliberately lose a few times, change the controls to Tilt B, when the lights go green do not move, wait for the timer to count down the 60 seconds. Either retry or continue and re-enter. If you retry ignore the bot's names, that splash up before the race, they will be changed at the end of the race. Note the distance is reducing each time. If continuing doesn't lower the bot's distance try repeating and vice a versa. It's possible to get all 7 bots distance to 1.0mi.

Another point, the online and offline bots can wildly vary on Endurance races, especially with fiends distance'. It's normally much better to race Endurance races offline, before going to the Endurance event go offline (aeroplane mode), if you've already started an Endurance race online, exit back to the main menu, if your logged into FB / G+ / Weibo, goto settings and logout, then force close, go offline and relaunch RR3, bots should now be offline ones.

Once ready to go, don't undo the lowing work by setting a good distance, instead once passed the 1st marker, park up (tilt B) and wait for the timer to count down.
None
Head To Head As soon as the race starts, pause, retire, confirm, either retry or continue and re-enter. Repeat multiple times, ignore the bot's time on the final screen, it is based on an average lap time, you can use it as a guide that the bot's time is reducing.

Once ready to go, don't undo the lowing work by setting a good time, instead once in 1st place, use the same technique as cup events, slow the bot down. Quite often a single bot will not push you once stopped, so you can easily hold it up for 20 seconds, then go for it. Wait at the line to reduced the time set, but still win.
1 lap of damage /None
Hunter As soon as the race starts, pause, retire, confirm, either retry or continue and re-enter, repeat multiple times, each time you repeat the distance to the 1st place will increase.

Once ready to go, don't undo the lowing work by setting a good distance, instead once passed the 1st place marker, slow down and maintain a small distance advantage ahead, when near the line slow to reduce the distance, but still win. It's also possible to spin out the NISSAN SILVIA (S15) to reach 1st, but be careful not to set a top distance. Final point, the NISSAN SILVIA (S15) can be on a different section as track from you, e.g. If 1st place marker is 1,000 yds behind. The NISSAN SILVIA (S15) could be going flat out down a straight while you’re in a hairpin or chicane, so the 1st place marker is going 1,000 yds behind the NISSAN SILVIA (S15), but travels at the same speed so doesn't slow for the chicane! The worst tracks have chicanes before the finish line, like Spa or Le Mans, learn from any losses, track knowledge will help in future events, sometimes waiting by the line is better, but be aware your stopped and 1st place marker could be going 120 MPH.
1 lap of damage /None
Time Trial Set a slow time, in a Series this event's cup does not count towards continuing your race career (i.e. it does not unlock the next Series). However it does count towards completing 100% of the Series.

Running a time trial with a broken car will therefore take no damage and lower the AI of bots.

Note: If you play against friends do not be tempted to upgrade your car and set faster times, as this will increase the AI of bots, you could always do this once you've bought all cars :)
1 lap of damage /None
Speed Record As soon as the race starts, pause, retire, confirm, either retry or continue and re-enter. Note the bot's time is reducing. If continuing doesn't lower the bot's speed try repeating and vice a versa.

Once ready to go, don't undo the lowing work by setting a high top speed, brake as soon as you hit 1st place's speed.

If your still struggling to reach first place, the start finish straight is normally the longest straight, you can do a U turn and drive the wrong way around the track, so once around the last turn, do another U turn, and blast down the straight, with all assists off, it doesn't matter if you fly off track at turn one. If the start/finish straight isn't the longest you can still use the no assists method to hit the top speed, again it doesn't matter if you fly off track. However once you reach 1st place brake, so you don't increase the AI of bots. In special events challenges there is quite often a no off track clause to stop this technique, forcing you to upgrade to hit the required speed.
Minimal /None
Speed Snap Speed Snaps are the same "parts of tracks" as Autocross, except you must hit a top speed at the line so set a top speed of 4th or less, the lower the better, then either retry or continue and re-enter. Note the top speed's are reducing each time. If continuing doesn't lower the bot's speed try repeating and vice a versa.

Once ready to go, do not set a high top speed at the line, tilt B will give better control to feather the throttle once at the 1st place' speed, this takes a bit of practice, smashing the top speed will increase the AI.

The player has 7 days to complete the 7 stages, the event is 7 days x 24 hours. The first stage will start the time the player starts it, the last stage will end 7 x 24 hours later. As stage 01 is normally straight forward and can be completed without an upgrade or service, it can be started late in the day, it doesn't matter if stage 01 isn't completed the first day, it can continue the following day. The next stage 02, will unlock at midnight providing stage 01 is completed, stage 03 will unlock at midnight the following day, and so on up to stage 7, in total there will be 7 x 24 hours = 168 hours to complete all stages.

You need to choose the best time for you to start The DAYTONA 500 event, or more importantly when is the best time for you to end the event!

RR3 Michael P wrote (pre-race tip):
I wouldn't recommend starting the event on the first day, 15-Feb, as many racers, who start as soon as the event opens, complain about bugs, which FM then fix! Instead leave the start a day or two and let other people do the bug testing. Also the tips and details can be filled in by the early adopters, so starting a day or two later gives a better heads up.

Ideally, for racers who are busy Monday to Friday and have the weekend free, the best day and time to start is as late as possible Sunday, as long as it's before midnight, meaning stage # of the event can be completed over two days, the following Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately there maybe a short time to start this event! It maybe only open for 3 weeks, as the next event is expected 4-March. Keep an eye out for adverts to start the event and watch for a countdown to start. Once started the event can be run, even if it's closed to new racers.

Cloud Save / Restore

See the Firemonkeys website for full details on cloud save:

Firemonkeys.com.au Cloud Save FAQ

Firemonkey wrote:
Real Racing 3 automatically uploads your save data to the Cloud Servers once every 12 Hours. This means that if you have lost your save data, you can easily restore your previous game progress (including your purchases) and also transfer this save data between devices using the Cloud Save feature.

During events you can use the Cloud Save and Restore feature to your advantage. Before you start every event, manually do a Cloud Save, if you lose do a cloud restore, this will save a long service after the longer, endurance, cup and NASCAR events.

Once you win do another cloud save before you continue the next event, see the FAQ on Firemonkey's website:

It is very important to wait for the screen to display last updated seconds (or minutes) ago. If you have a message stating backup failed, wait another minute, a wheel will turn in the bottom right corner, the message will show last updated seconds (or minutes) ago and Backup to Cloud button will be greyed out too.

If backup still failed, return to the login screen, log off, wait 10 seconds and log on once more, click continue, wait 30 seconds for the login to complete, then try to backup once more.

If you still have problems: log off, then turn aeroplane mode on, wait 10 seconds, turn aeroplane mode off, wait 30 seconds for the wifi to reconnect, login, click continue, wait 30 seconds for the login to complete, then try to backup once more.

The final thing to try, force close the RR3 app, then with the Wifi on, relaunch RR3, then try to backup once more. If this still doesn't work, the FM server is probably having problems, again.

You can also use this technique to save on spending with gold, for example if you want to spend 1 gold on the mechanic, if you win, the mechanic will be used and the car condition will be maintained, but if you don't come first the gold is lost and the car condition will be reduced, if you cloud restore the car will be returned to it previous state and the gold spend (or even free mechanic) returned.

Note: Before you cloud restore, it is important to login into the same Social Profiles you had previously connected to Real Racing, when cloud saving. Especially if multiple Social Profiles are used!

FAQ

Car Service

How can I service the car when I already finished the day?

If you missed servicing your car after the final event on the day, the soonest you can service the car is at midnight.

The Target is too High, How do I Reduce it?

When the speed or time or distance is too high or fast or long, there are several things that can be done to reduce the target

Make sure you cloud save before you start and after a handful of failed attempts try a cloud restore and retry the next method. Sometimes the AI is still reduced after the restore.

  • Try offline - if you've been online, you must do a force close too.
  • Try online - sometimes the AI target is different.
  • Try repeat, repeat , repeat, again lose by a big margin, don't come higher than 4th.
  • Try loosing by a big margin, but don't retry, instead complete and then re-enter the race - this takes more time but works.

Sorry this takes so much time, but the AI will reduce. With a cloud restore it's quicker than a long service!

For example, I tried 11 times to reach 1st place:

The Game / Le Mans Keeps crashing

RR3 Michael P wrote:
If you are having problems loading Le-Mans: Le Mans is the biggest data track to load, close the game, go off line (aeroplane mode), try a complete showdown (hold the power for 10 seconds, I think), then start back up, launch the game and turn the Heads-up Display (HUD) off. This helps on my Hudl.

I read a post suggesting using the RR3 Graphics app (AKA RR3 GFX) available from the Google Play Store, (then automatically updating it from their website). The poster advised Le Mans used to crash, but when the graphics is set low, using this app, it loads and plays fine:

When is the last time I can start this Event?

The exact date is unknown, but as the cars unlock the 4-March, it isn't expected to remain open for long, to win all four cars, the first run is 7 days, the remaining 3 cars have no time limit, the stages automatically open one after the other, an early start is required.

Will this event be added to the race career?

FM went though a spell of adding special events to the racing career, the last time a special event was added was September 2015 v3.6, NASCAR Academy was added directly to the NASCAR career, without previously being released as a Time Limited Event (TLE). Previous to that was April 2015 v3.3, with Redline: Origins and MotorFiesta 1. It is therefore unlikely this event will be added to the racing career.

Will the car be available to win in the future?

The four NASCAR cars are available to win if the challenge is completed in 7 days, after 4-March the cars can be purchased.

Can I buy the car?

The DAYTONA 500 is a special event in Real Racing 3 starting from 16th February and ending 4th March. It was added with the Daytona 500 Update (v4.1.5) and released to coincide with the 58th Daytona 500.

Players have the chance to win four 2016 Daytona 500 cars, namely the 2016 Hendrick Motorsport Chevrolet SS, 2016 Team Penske Ford Fusion, 2016 Joe Gibbs Racing TOYOTA Camry and 2016 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet SS.

These four NASCAR vehicles have been added to the NASCAR All-Star Series career series, and the Kevin Harvick's Champion Cup, Chase Elliott's Champion Cup, Matt Kenseth's Champion Cup and Joey Logano's Champion Cup bonus series in the NASCAR category.

These vehicles can be acquired for 500 Icon Gold.

What is the minimum PR / upgrades required

RR3 Michael P wrote:
My recommendation is to start the upgrades as soon as the challenge start as they take 2 hours, there is no need to wait for them to complete before doing continuing the events. As soon as level 1 upgrades are complete start level 2 upgrades. Normally only R$ upgrades are required, as long as you slow the bots, see Time Shifted Multiplayer and Methods to slow bots down)

I honestly would like to understand why so many players struggle so much to win this event (and not only this one).

As far as I am concerned it's all about good management (from the very beginning of the event). Don't do upgrades unless absolutely necessary and try to win the challenges by the smallest margin possible. These are my advices but this wiki has pretty much covered all the necessary info on the subject.

Here's a hint/tip.

Event 1.2: it's head to head. getting the slipstream up to the required distance (1499 yards in game rather than the 1500 as claimed in the intro) seems to be ridiculously easy.

You have lots of time on the lap after that to get ahead and then slow down your team-mate. I think I ended up with a time over 1:20.

Goal 1.3: NASCAR at Daytona International Speedway - Speedway [5 laps] - Win this event

RR3SeanR wrote
1.3 was pretty difficult to slow anyone down - I had to run it a couple of times - seems to be pretty easy to get knocked about and driven off track. The packs are so big that getting in amongst them to pit anyone leaves you very vulnerable. NASCAR bots also seem to be much better than a lot of other cars at low-speed maneuvering (ie getting around you when you try to block) - probably as a result of having to avoid hulking wrecks.

I even had one race where I was in position 1 when I crossed the line, but then got told I was 2nd (and in the replay I could see I was ahead at the line as well).

My other tip (as always) is try to upgrade (as much as you're going to) as quickly as possible. Remember that TSM sees a 1:00 with PR44 as better than a 1:00 with PR48 (ie so a 1:00 with PR44 will subsequently have you facing faster bots).

And of course, don't forget that you can spin your car the other way and drive headlong into your rivals and leave a heap of hulking wrecks (and you might even still manage to win - although harder to do at shorter distances). Apparently your car is made of unobtanium.

Edit: you can no longer destroy the whole field. I've only tested in 43 car races, but maximum you can destroy now is 21 cars.

RR3SeanR report:
Stage 4: R$ upgrades (PR50.3). Have bots slowed. Not clear if slowing from Melbourne has carried over, or if it's slowing from day 2.

Tilt B, no assists.

  • 4.1 very easy, won it.
  • 4.2 easy again, finished in 07:55:xx; my fastest lap 44:7, their fastest lap 55:xx. Managed to hit the front at the start then spend the rest of the race (other than one lap for a vanity "fastest lap") pitting the leaders.
  • 4.3 (still have some service) 3:35.559 in 1st to 3:36.705 in 2nd, this time they had fastest lap of 0:53.160
  • 4.4 car now with 0 service bars remaining, was possible to do with 0 service bars... your top speed of 170mph probably isn't quite enough to hold it for the whole 2000 yards, so get a draft from someone to push you up to 174mph at the end of the straight, try to start your draft at the start of the corner (as they'll slow into it), by the end of the corner you'll have most of the required distance, and should have it all before they pull away at the end of the straight. Then next time you hit a corner, you just overtake. Sadly, because it stops when you overtake, I don't have lap times.

Obviously I'm slowing bots, so the following technique may not work with faster cars, but... when working my way up the field, I tend to have to take the outside line to pass, halfway round the corner if you see you're not going to get past into clear space then I find that if I ease off the accelerator just before bumping my way into the pack that I have fewer crashes, you don't lose a lot of pace because you basically immediately pick up the slipstream effect, and because you're not accelerating into contact you have more control. YMMV but seems to work for me.

My saved game status says "a few minutes ago", I'm definitely signed in, Chev SS is definitely in for service, special event says next stage opens tomorrow and it's showing 4/7 progress bars. So hopefully I don't lose that progress again!

Day 5: R$ upgrades only (50.3) - Tilt B; no assists.

  • 5.1 - finished first in 02:32.609 - best lap 46.509; opponents: 50.034 let's see what that does to my bots... (looks like a shade over 5 bars used)
  • 5.2 1st again in 03:17.941 (00:44.881 best lap to 00:48.166 for best bot so I've definitely sped them up) Looks like a total of 8 extra bars used; 11 remaining.
  • 5.3 this is a bit painful as it has to be an unbroken run so I had a few goes at this. It even seemed to me that if you switched cars in the middle of a pack it would reset.

For me it was easiest to try to get it with the first car you're behind at the start of the race and just get it over and done with as soon as possible.

1st in 1:417.767 fastest lap at 00:47.386 (best bot 00:53.501)

Just in the green with service.

  • 5.4

1st in 02:27.662 - bots definitely speeding up - probably making a rod for my own back (and may have to end up upgrading) - fastest lap (00:46.954, fastest bot 00:47.017). I just really hate not finishing 1st - especially when your 3rd goes into the trophies section and because the event has finished - you can't improve on it! That's really poor design.

Looks like there's still a fractional bit of service left.

Will try and see how it goes with unserviced...

  • 5.5 interestingly, despite degradation and recommended PR of 49.9 it still shows in green - different from gauntlet where it looks at actual performance.

Basically - I dropped like a stone and finished dead last in 05:11.203. Was able to reach 178mph in the pack as I dropped through it, but only 174mph on my lonesome at the back of the pack. Lap time was around 50 second, unfortunately I forgot to write it down.

Winner in 04:44.049 with fastest lap (from any bot) 00:46.711.

So car going in for service, I'll keep the result to slow things down again (hopefully!).

Assuming I'd kept the bots at the "entry" time I'd say it would be just about possible to win 5.5 with an unserviced car (ie times at 50second mark) but it would be close - so 5.4 looks like a candidate for Eric.

RR3SeanR report:
50.3 (R$ only) Tilt B

  • 6.1 - missed the detail - but spun out the first car, then made sure I crossed at only 186mph.
  • 6.2 got up to 15 second of them drafting before I managed to pull away. 01:37.133 - my fastest in 00:48.509, the best bot in 00:50.146 - 7 bars used now.
  • 6.3 Switched on brake assist to high at the start (probably an error), tipped out the guy in second then ran to catch up to first (this is why brake assists was an error) - after I caught up it was easy to stick on his tail and get the distance, once that was done, switched off the assist and went past for first. First in 01:36.980, best lap 0:46.130; best bot lap 00:50.898 (on 2 lap races the bot lap is a bit misleading because it only has data for the 1st lap).

A bit over 4 more bars used.

  • 6.4 - pretty straightforward for me. win time 02:24.984; best lap 00:45.983; best bot 00:47.401

Still in green on the service.

  • 6.5 First time round, didn't nail the start so dropped back a bit, then got caught in a crash, managed to catch up to the main pack (a group of about 20 cars) just before the end, but only got 7th, was probably 100yds from first (bots into the 46:xx range - my fastest 00:44:xx). So... reload.

Second time round - basically the same final time as the first - I just managed to control the race much better and broke up the drafting packs. I kept with the front runners through the first turn, then pitted the 4th or 5th car into the 5th or 4th car. This left 2 cars at the front racing together, with a 3rd just off. So spent the rest of the race catching up to them, ran in train with them for a bit then pitted both of them.

Winning time: 03:59.222 (I think 2 seconds slower than my 7th), my fastest lap 00:44.999, bot fastest lap 00:46.454 (but this wasn't the bot in 2nd or 3rd - they were about 00:46.7x).

Car trashed - so into service.

Now we just need the Aussies and Kiwis to stay up late finish stage 7 and let us know what we're in for. Even better if they also find out what the PR requirement is for the bonus series!

  • 6.4 1st 2:23.4 v 2:31.7 Ku.Busch (#41), starting 10th of 43, finish 1st (win), the bots are faster accelerating now, but still brake for the straights, I passed half of them down the middle in turn 1 they formed 1 line so I passed them around the outside of turn 2, maintained a small lead, braked a little on the straights, I can go 201 MPH in the turns, no need to brake, recommended PR 52.0, used 5 bar of damage, 8 green remaining.
  • 6.4 1st 4:16.7 v 4:17.1 Ku. Bush, starting 6th of 43, behind Patrick, although I tried to push Patrick the bot didn’t want to pass the 2nd place car, so I passed between them, then started to slow them down, I managed to PIT a few as they tried to pass me, as I tapped the brakes on the straight, but there is no need to brake in the turns, recommended PR 52.5, used 7 bar of damage, 0 remaining, serviced. I managed to complete stage 6 in one go, very few off tracks today, the car is much more stable with brake assist high.

RR3SeanR report
Starting with 50.3 (R$ only) Tilt B

  • 7.1 Finish 31st in 53.722; fastest bot in 50.770; I just eased off at the start then every couple of seconds took my foot off the accelerator. Essentially I blocked the right column and the left column raced past. Eventually the guy behind me got past. As I dropped down towards 25th I started to keep a constant acceleration, but letting people pass every now and then to make sure I finished in the right spot.

2 bars down.

  • 7.2 05:07.463 in 19th - since you start in 22nd I figure the best thing to do is to tip the guy in front of you. Once I did that I tried to move right up the field, then try to create mayhem.

Once I'm sure the right guys are in front of me I dropped back to 19/20 to create more carnage.

To be fair it took me a couple of times to get the strategy right - kept getting pipped on the line (ie 21st) - but when I did, the time was the longest of all 3 attempts.

12 bars left.

  • 7.3 10th in 02:29.564; bot fastest laps were 00:47.568

Car a smidge of degraded performance (1mph).

  • 7.4 you can tip a few cars but need to be careful as there's a tendency for them to end up right in your driving line.

Completely missed the stats - and have put it in for a service as I need to do some other stuff.

  • 7.5 - win in 03:56.058, my fastest lap 00:44.773; bot fastest: 00:45.659
  • 7.6 - unbelievable - what kind of crazy programming has it so that the victory lap isn't a cakewalk. It's a _victory_ lap - clearly the programmers want us to think all your NASCAR team-mates are utter a*holes. Nice work FM - way to diminish the brand.

I finished in 4th first time round. Second time round I managed to get a really great draft going to get up to 205mph and was able to win.

Drafting is absolutely key here - you have to get and keep your draft for as long as possible.

EDIT: just to be clear - I won the car with R$ upgrades only.

However, since we now know that the PR requirement for the bonus series is 57 (and it will cost "only" 241) I'll likely upgrade the remainder with at least the relevant Engine, Drivetrain and Tires/Wheels updates (I figure they will have biggest impact on racing at Daytona in terms of lap-times) to make it easier (and somewhat counter-intuitively make it even easier to slow bots).

RR3 RV83: With PR52,6 impossible to win the race after 10 tries..... My best ranking is 3rd, even with no assist. I think will pay 40 coins to finish this race......
