Tips and FAQ History

This is the forth iteration of a tips and FAQ page:

Each time the tips have improved. Unfortunately due to the way forum posts and blogs work, only the originator RR3 Michael P or Guillejarque can edit the first entry. With Tips and FAQ for Stingray Evolution anyone can edit this page, hopefully this will lead to many more editors adding useful content for everyone’s benefit.

General Tips

Strategy

Real Racing 3 is a freemium game by Firemonkeys (FM) - Many in this Wikia community have posted comments what they have managed to reach the end of the game without spending any real money. The bottle neck currency is Icon Gold. Read this article on strategy for more information:

Time Shifted Multiplayer (TSM)

Read the following about how the time shifted multiplayer affects the AI of the bots, why it's important to win by small margins and how to slow bots down:

Methods to slow bots down

Track Recommended method to slow bots Damage Taken
Autocross Each time you run an Autocross event, set a slow time of of 4th or less, either retry or continue and re-enter. If you retry ignore the bot's names, that splash up before the race, they will be changed at the end of the race, you will notice, after each time of running, the target time is increased. If continuing doesn't increase the bot's time try repeating and vice a versa.

Do not set a low time at the line, tilt B will give better control to coast before the line, if you are too quick or brake and wait at the line, smashing the time will increase the AI.
Minimal
Cup
& NASCAR
As soon as the race starts, pause, retire, confirm, either retry or continue and re-enter, if you retry ignore the bot's names, that splash up before the race, they will be changed at the end of the race. Also ignore the bots times on the final screen too, they are based on an average lap time, as you quit their times are based on a standing start, as an average. Instead use the times as a guide, with each retry or continue the bots times should increase. If continuing doesn't lower the bot's time try repeating and vice a versa.

OR If you have a broken car run the race a few times, each time you lose you will still get R$ and Fame, place 4th or less, repeating or continuing and re-entering will lower the bot's.

Once ready to go, get to 1st place as quickly as possible and try to slow the bot's down, either spin them out or park in sharp bends / chicanes and stop them passing. By setting a low time, but still coming first, it's still possible to still lower the AI of bots, think about a Time Trial time, if you set a set a slow time it lowers the AI.

Minimal /None.
Drag Race Start the race, press go and leave the car is first gear, do not click repeat, as this will repeat the current race, against the same bot, instead choose continue, then either retry or continue and re-enter. You will see the opponents will change to lower ones.

Once ready to go, don't undo the lowing work by setting a fast time, instead use the gears to slow the car, once passed the bot go up through the gears, but watch the bot doesn't speed up / close the gap, or if close to the line go down a gear to brake.
Minimal
Elimination Elimination events are one of the best opportunities to lower the bots AI, deliberately lose a few times, do not move at the start (Tilt B), wait for the 20 second timer to run out, then repeat or continue and re-enter. You will see the opponent will change to lower ones. If you retry ignore the bot's names, that splash up before the race, they will be changed at the end of the race.

Once ready to go, get to first place and slow the bots as per the cup event.
None
Endurance Endurance events are one of the best opportunities to lower the bots AI deliberately lose a few times, change the controls to Tilt B, when the lights go green do not move, wait for the timer to count down the 60 seconds. Either retry or continue and re-enter. If you retry ignore the bot's names, that splash up before the race, they will be changed at the end of the race. Note the distance is reducing each time. If continuing doesn't lower the bot's distance try repeating and vice a versa. It's possible to get all 7 bots distance to 1.0mi.

Another point, the online and offline bots can wildly vary on Endurance races, especially with fiends distance'. It's normally much better to race Endurance races offline, before going to the Endurance event go offline (aeroplane mode), if you've already started an Endurance race online, exit back to the main menu, if your logged into FB / G+ / Weibo, goto settings and logout, then force close, go offline and relaunch RR3, bots should now be offline ones.

Once ready to go, don't undo the lowing work by setting a good distance, instead once passed the 1st marker, park up (tilt B) and wait for the timer to count down.
None
Head To Head As soon as the race starts, pause, retire, confirm, either retry or continue and re-enter. Repeat multiple times, ignore the bot's time on the final screen, it is based on an average lap time, you can use it as a guide that the bot's time is reducing.

Once ready to go, don't undo the lowing work by setting a good time, instead once in 1st place, use the same technique as cup events, slow the bot down. Quite often a single bot will not push you once stopped, so you can easily hold it up for 20 seconds, then go for it. Wait at the line to reduced the time set, but still win.
1 lap of damage /None
Hunter As soon as the race starts, pause, retire, confirm, either retry or continue and re-enter, repeat multiple times, each time you repeat the distance to the 1st place will increase.

Once ready to go, don't undo the lowing work by setting a good distance, instead once passed the 1st place marker, slow down and maintain a small distance advantage ahead, when near the line slow to reduce the distance, but still win. It's also possible to spin out the NISSAN SILVIA (S15) to reach 1st, but be careful not to set a top distance. Final point, the NISSAN SILVIA (S15) can be on a different section as track from you, e.g. If 1st place marker is 1,000 yds behind. The NISSAN SILVIA (S15) could be going flat out down a straight while you’re in a hairpin or chicane, so the 1st place marker is going 1,000 yds behind the NISSAN SILVIA (S15), but travels at the same speed so doesn't slow for the chicane! The worst tracks have chicanes before the finish line, like Spa or Le Mans, learn from any losses, track knowledge will help in future events, sometimes waiting by the line is better, but be aware your stopped and 1st place marker could be going 120 MPH.
1 lap of damage /None
Time Trial Set a slow time, in a Series this event's cup does not count towards continuing your race career (i.e. it does not unlock the next Series). However it does count towards completing 100% of the Series.

Running a time trial with a broken car will therefore take no damage and lower the AI of bots.

Note: If you play against friends do not be tempted to upgrade your car and set faster times, as this will increase the AI of bots, you could always do this once you've bought all cars :)
1 lap of damage /None
Speed Record As soon as the race starts, pause, retire, confirm, either retry or continue and re-enter. Note the bot's time is reducing. If continuing doesn't lower the bot's speed try repeating and vice a versa.

Once ready to go, don't undo the lowing work by setting a high top speed, brake as soon as you hit 1st place's speed.

If your still struggling to reach first place, the start finish straight is normally the longest straight, you can do a U turn and drive the wrong way around the track, so once around the last turn, do another U turn, and blast down the straight, with all assists off, it doesn't matter if you fly off track at turn one. If the start/finish straight isn't the longest you can still use the no assists method to hit the top speed, again it doesn't matter if you fly off track. However once you reach 1st place brake, so you don't increase the AI of bots. In special events challenges there is quite often a no off track clause to stop this technique, forcing you to upgrade to hit the required speed.
Minimal /None
Speed Snap Speed Snaps are the same "parts of tracks" as Autocross, except you must hit a top speed at the line so set a top speed of 4th or less, the lower the better, then either retry or continue and re-enter. Note the top speed's are reducing each time. If continuing doesn't lower the bot's speed try repeating and vice a versa.

Once ready to go, do not set a high top speed at the line, tilt B will give better control to feather the throttle once at the 1st place' speed, this takes a bit of practice, smashing the top speed will increase the AI.

The player has 7 days to complete the 7 stages, the event is 7 days x 24 hours. The first stage will start the time the player starts it, the last stage will end 7 x 24 hours later. As stage 01 is normally straight forward and can be completed without an upgrade or service, it can be started late in the day, it doesn't matter if stage 01 isn't completed the first day, it can continue the following day. You need to choose the best time for you to start Stingray Evolution event, or more importantly when is the best time for you to end the event!

RR3 Michael P wrote (pre-race tip):
I wouldn't recommend starting the event on the first day, Sunday 15th November, as many racers, who start as soon as the event opens, complain about bugs, which FM then fix! Instead leave the start a day or two and let other people do the bug testing. Also the tips and details can be filled in by the early racers, so starting a day or two later gives a better heads up.

Ideally, for racers who are busy Monday to Friday and have the weekend free, the best day and time to start is as late as possible Sunday, as long as it's before midnight, meaning stage 07 of the event can be completed over two days, the following Saturday and Sunday. It maybe only open for 2 weeks, as the next release is expected 1st December. Keep an eye out for adverts to start the event and watch for a countdown to start. Once started the event can be run, even if it's closed to new racers.

Cloud Save / Restore

See the Firemonkeys website for full details on cloud save:

Firemonkeys.com.au Cloud Save FAQ

Firemonkey wrote:
Real Racing 3 automatically uploads your save data to the Cloud Servers once every 12 Hours. This means that if you have lost your save data, you can easily restore your previous game progress (including your purchases) and also transfer this save data between devices using the Cloud Save feature.

During events you can use the Cloud Save and Restore feature to your advantage. Before you start every event, manually do a Cloud Save, if you lose do a cloud restore, this will save a long service after the longer, endurance, cup and NASCAR events.

Once you win do another cloud save before you continue the next event, see the FAQ on Firemonkey's website:

It is very important to wait for the screen to display last updated seconds (or minutes) ago. If you have a message stating backup failed, wait another minute, a wheel will turn in the bottom right corner, the message will show last updated seconds (or minutes) ago and Backup to Cloud button will be greyed out too.

If backup still failed, return to the login screen, log off, wait 10 seconds and log on once more, click continue, wait 30 seconds for the login to complete, then try to backup once more.

If you still have problems: log off, then turn aeroplane mode on, wait 10 seconds, turn aeroplane mode off, wait 30 seconds for the wifi to reconnect, login, click continue, wait 30 seconds for the login to complete, then try to backup once more.

The final thing to try, force close the RR3 app, then with the Wifi on, relaunch RR3, then try to backup once more. If this still doesn't work, the FM server is probably having problems, again.

You can also use this technique to save on spending with gold, for example if you want to spend 1 gold on the mechanic, if you win, the mechanic will be used and the car condition will be maintained, but if you don't come first the gold is lost and the car condition will be reduced, if you cloud restore the car will be returned to it previous state and the gold spend (or even free mechanic) returned.

Note: Before you cloud restore, it is important to login into the same Social Profiles you had previously connected to Real Racing, when cloud saving. Especially if multiple Social Profiles are used!

FAQ

Car Service

How can I service the car when I already finished the day?

If you missed servicing your car after the final event on the day, the soonest you can service the car is at midnight.

The Target is too High, How do I Reduce it?

When the speed or time or distance is too high or fast or long, there are several things that can be done to reduce the target

Make sure you cloud save before you start and after a handful of failed attempts try a cloud restore and retry the next method. Sometimes the AI is still reduced after the restore.

  • Try offline - if you've been online, you must do a force close too.
  • Try online - sometimes the AI target is different.
  • Try repeat, repeat , repeat, again lose by a big margin, don't come higher than 4th.
  • Try loosing by a big margin, but don't retry, instead complete and then re-enter the race - this takes more time but works.

Sorry this takes so much time, but the AI will reduce. With a cloud restore it's quicker than a long service!

For example, I tried 11 times to reach 1st place:

The Game / Le Mans Keeps crashing

RR3 Michael P wrote:
If you are having problems loading Le-Mans: Le Mans is the biggest data track to load, close the game, go off line (aeroplane mode), try a complete showdown (hold the power for 10 seconds, I think), then start back up, launch the game and turn the Heads-up Display (HUD) off. This helps on my Hudl.

I read a post suggesting using the RR3 Graphics app (AKA RR3 GFX) available from the Google Play Store, (then automatically updating it from their website). The poster advised Le Mans used to crash, but when the graphics is set low, using this app, it loads and plays fine:

When is the last time I can start this Event?

The event started 15th Nov @ 8 PM UTC (this websites clock), the countdown to start the event states, entry closes in 9 days, making the last start date around Mon 23rd Nov, as FireMonkeys use a rounding factor, when displaying countdowns, always watch out the countdown clock changing to hours. Also be aware the countdown clock will only update when online.

Guillejarque wrote: We will have one week to start this event. Hopefully the last day to enter it will be 22nd November.

Will this event be added to the Series?

My best guess is The 500 will be the next one to be added to the series, I don't know for sure, but there is a pattern to challenges being added to the series. Have a look at the the special events at the bottom of RR3 Wiki:Most Profitable Races Special Events and compare how many have been added to the Series and Special Events to see for yourself.

It maybe months before this event is added to a series, again this is a fairly recent pattern from FM of added past events to series, after three to six months.

Will the car be available to win in the future?

The Chevrolet CORVETTE STINGRAY Z51 is available to win if the challenge is completed in 7 days, after 30th November the Chevrolet CORVETTE STINGRAY Z51 can be purchased.

Can I buy the car?

The Chevrolet CORVETTE STINGRAY Z51 is available in the Modern Sports Classics Series in the Pro career. It can be purchased for 300 Icon Gold.

If you start to play the event, all upgrades, customizations and VIP will remain on the car permanently, whether you acquire it from this event or buy it later.

What is the minimum PR / upgrades required

RR3 Michael P wrote:
My recommendation is to start the upgrades as soon as the challenge start as they take 10 minutes for level 1 and 30 minutes for 2 level 2 R$ upgrades, there is no need to wait for them to complete before doing the level 1 events. As soon as level 1 upgrades are complete start level 2 upgrades. Normally only R$ upgrades are required, as long as you slow the bots, see Time Shifted Multiplayer and methods to slow bots down)

Normally the first day is straight forward, and can be completed without upgrades, I recommend stage 1 upgrades will take 10 minutes, 7 R$ upgrades and will cost R$ 291,100, 2 R$ level 2 upgrades cost R$113,300 will take a further 30 minutes. In these races the player will drive the Chevrolet CORVETTE STINGRAY Z51, teaming up with the Chevrolet '69 Stingray 427. The into mentions Pacific, so the track maybe Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Paid for all the level 1 upgrades, they only take 10 mins.

  • 1.2 1st 1:56 v 1:56 JKR (#27 offline Bot), the bots were a little faster, still easy to pass, PITed and held up at the bots at top of the hill. 5 bars of damage taken.

Chevrolet CORVETTE STINGRAY Z51 is now PR 41.7 7/31 all level 1 R$ upgrades. Bought Suspension and Brake, R$ level 2 upgrades, they will take 30 min

  • 1.3 1st 3:09 v 3:11 Rusty in a Shelby '66 cobra. Rolling start, starting 3rd, a cup with with lots of slow bots, similar to an Endurance event, with Magnus and Rusty behind. I held up Magnus, but Rusty got past, I should have come 3rd ~3:32, but wanted to find out the reward for 1st. I would recommend to let Magnus and Rusty pass, staying in 3rd and slowing down the 4th place bot. ~10 bars of damage taken, 3 red remaining, serviced.

Game crashed so couldn't see the reward :(

2.4. The event allows you to take a bit of damage but not too much. In my first try I sat in the chicanes for a while but got bumped too much and got the dreaded FAILED message. The second time round I just drove slowly getting in the 2nd bots way for 2 laps. He didn't hit me - he just sat back and also went very slowly. I was in second place by end of 1st lap and in first place just before the first chicane on the second lap. I don't remember my time, but it was very slow for 3 laps - over 5 mins. Aklrcaer.

Slow cars will take you around the outside: be clever and win their outside. The rest of the circuit is just exact driving: overtake in the correct points: don't risk in the chicanes and in the deep-in moves.

  • 2.1 1st 2:34 v 2:34 Nielsen, new bots are back, the top 3 are fast, down the straight, but I managed to get to first on the way up the mountain, so parked in a corner and slowed the down, when one squeezed past, I caught back up and passed once more and did the same on the bends at the top of the hill, 5 bars of damage taken.
  • 2.2 1st 5:30 v 5:30 Demopoulos, new bots, with a rolling start, the cars are spread out at the start, I managed to pass for 1st at the top of the mounting on lap 1, help up and PIT as before, being careful not to go off track. Used 13 bar of damage, 6 red remaining.
  • 2.3.2 1st +110yd v +183yd Richie Rich, (offline bot #11), I wanted to capture the data, so ran this event then will try 2.3.1, I reached 1st coming down the mountain, slowed by the line, used all remaining, I restored from cloud and will try 2.3.1. Only one of the evens has to be completed.
  • 2.3.1 I had to try a few times:
    1. 2nd 181.1 v 181.2 :(
    2. 4th 180.6 v 181.2 auralpod (offline bot #2 !), may not be possible with a slightly damaged car, will try a few more times, cloud restored.
    3. 1st 181.48 mph v 181.26 auralpod (offline bot #2!), I had a few aborted attempts, as I skidded coming on to the straight, so I made a U turn went back to the start and tried again, on the 3rd try I was happy and just managed by 0.2mph! I can see some serous bot slowing coming up. Used 3 bars, 3 red condition bars remaining.
  • 2.4 1st 4:09 v 4:09 Nielsen, rolling start, starting 12th, I was 7th crossing the start line, I reached 3rd at the end of the 1st lap, and passed Nielsen just before the final chicane on the 2nd, so parked for 20 seconds, I did a slow 3rd lap, weaving slowly, stopping Nielsen from passing I didn't risk parking an another chicane due to the damage goal, if the car takes too much damage the race is red flagged. Used 3 red bars, car now fully trashed so serviced ready for tomorrow.

Have fun while overtaking the turtles. When you reach the Fords, stop in front of them so that you can have different leaders, each one different and with slower pace.

RR3 Michael P wrote (pre-race tip):
The goal has nothing about our position, so reach 4th and play shotgun for Ahmed, if he's fast enough PIT and hold up 4th and below. If he's slow PIT the front runners. Possibly once Ahmed has crossed the line in 3rd we could park our car before the line and finish last.

Guillejarque wrote:

Hold up bots, Ahmed has to win!! It's funny because it shows the old Stingray is faster than the Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe, it shouldn't have been that way. Laguna Seca is just not a circuit that I like, specially the first fast corner, it has a dark meaning around my own, a black past.

Event 3.3 : Cup at Indianapolis Motor Speedway - Speedway [1 Lap]- Win this event

This is an improvised drag race with 4 cars at the same time, starting alongside Magnus, with Ahmed and Rusty ahead, you have to some first by the start line. Magnus gets blocked in, so Rusty must be passed to win, keep to the right to pass.

Agreed. But for me it didn't take that much to win. I just had to slightly tap the side of Magnus car at the start, then again slightly tap the side of Rusty's car just before the finish line in order to slow them down enough to let that damn slow Ahmed finish 2nd :-)

Hi guys, I was also struggling to finish 3.3 and the only way to do it is to upgrade. The best combination so far is 18GC Drivetrain L2 + R$105100 Drivetrain L3 (Specs ). Slowing bots down works differently according to the Event Type. There are two options:

Fixed goal modes: These are Autocross, Drag Race, Endurance, Hunter, Speed Record, Speed Snap. It is quiet straight-forward, you lose a few times and the 10km goal for first place goes down to 6km for example. There is no way to alter the goal once you start.

Non-fixed goal modes: These are Cup, Elimination, Head to Head, NASCAR. What is important to keep in mind is that the opponents have equally good cars (acceleration, top speed, brakes, etc.), the only difference is that they are MUCH slower in the turns, which in the ends makes their laps take much onger time. The goal can be altered by crashing another racer or blocking, for example.

So, what's going on in 3.3?? They say "improvised four way drag race", but is not a real Drag Race, it is a CUP! A very short 1-lap cup without corners, so no matter what you do to slow the bots down, the opponents will remain the same. The only option for this unique case is to upgrade.

3.3 Makes me cross that FM have made it mandatory to do GC upgrade to win this car. Part of a new strategy to try and eek more money out of people? Just puts me off. Anyway, upgraded drivetrain with GC and then Lvl 3 R$. I still can't win. Must be missing out by a coat of paint! I'm in front of Rusty but a whisker behind Ahmed. Time is saying 14.582 and getting slightly slower with each try. I did have only 9 bars left so thinking that a fully serviced car will do it. Will report back later. Won with fully serviced car PR43.8. Time on race screen was 14.560 but 14.749 on results screen. Aklracer.

If you choose cockpit cam you will see that the car starts... in 7th gear!!! Yes, what's a car doing at 1kph in 7th gear! Nothing!! But yes, Drivetrain 2 & 3 best options so far, try hard!!!

  • 6.5.1 1st 8:35 v 8:36 Nielsen, standard cup, starting 22nd, easily passed most of the field in the first straight, didn't slow the bots due to the no colliding or off track, normally a little contact is allowed, used 18 bar of condition, 0 remaining, serviced.

Tips about Stingray Evolation Stage 07:

Continue to follow methods to slow bots down.

Event 7.1 : Cup at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca [2 Laps] - Win this event

Event 7.2 : Win one of these events

RR3 Michael P wrote (pre-race tip):
Win one of these events style goals was introduced in Retro Rivals, normally the shortest event, Drag Race, Autocross and Speed Snap events are best as the car is damaged the the least.

RR3 Michael P wrote:
Endurance events and Elimination events are particularly good to slow the bot's down for future events, next best are Drag Race events, Autocross events and Speed Snap events, see methods to slow bots down.

Event 7.3 : Cup at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca [6 Laps] - Help Ahmed finish 3rd while getting an average speed of at least 86 mph (138 kph)

RR3 Michael P wrote (pre-race tip):
Sounds tricky, no parking up for this race! Keep the average higher and slow on the finish straight. PIT any bots who try to pass.

Event 7.4 : Cup at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca [6 Laps] - Help Ahmed finish 1st while never getting a lap time less than 2:00

RR3 Michael P wrote (pre-race tip):
Another tricky one, again no parking up for this race! May able to slow before the line to cross just under 2 min.

Event 7.5 : Cup at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca [1 Lap] - Complete 1 lap in reverse before Magnus wins (with no assists)

RR3 Michael P wrote (pre-race tip):
Do a U turn and run the track in the opposite direction, unassisted.

Event 7.6 : Cup at Indianapolis Motor Speedway - Road Course (Rolling Start) [6 Laps] - Come 1st and 2nd with Ahmed

RR3 Michael P wrote (pre-race tip):
Run shotgun, PIT bots who try to pass, try to take the lead on the last lap, to take the top reward, if the other bots are to fast stay in 2nd.

(*) Gold gain includes spend on upgrades and rewards from playing each stage, as well as daily rewards and free gold adverts, one day I had 27 Icon Gold for 27 adverts, this isn't the normal quantity I receive. This figure should be used as a guide, as it's subjective, other racers will have different upgrade levels and different adverts.
