1.1. The race is really a head to head. The other car comes into sight as you are completing lap 1. Pretty straightforward. @botmanagement: try to spin the other car round or block him once you've overtaken him.

1.2 The drafting adds up, so it's OK to lose the draft and then continue where you left off. The car in front weaves and swerves a bit, so don't get too close, you'll lose the draft. Trying to keep the same speed and distance by tapping the accelarator works best for me.

1.3 Bit unclear what you had to do here, but it turned out you have to overtake Chip and then make sure he is behind you in your draft. The unclear part was that you can be right in front of him and for some reason the drafting time counter doesn't start ticking. Still, once it does you get to the 5 seconds in no time. Don't get too far ahead and don't go too slow or the draft will stop. Avoid being overtaken too, of course. Again, the totals of the drafting add up, so if you lose the draft you can carry on where you left off. Pretty easy.

All 3 events can be done without having to service. If you do want to service, remember to do it straight after race 3. After that you can't get to your car before day 2 is unlocked.

2.1 Pretty easy. No point in finishing higher than 3rd, it may raise the bot levels later on.

Maybe for the new players: Overtaking in Indianapolis: the place to pass is on the outside of the turns. The bots slow a lot before the turns & leave a lot of room to pass on the outside (right side / high side of the corner). The bots will hug the right hand wall on the straights, so make sure you are out of the way by then. Find a gap and slip through from the outside of the turn to the inside or middle of the track on the straights.

2.2. Didn't service after day 1 and (even though the max. speed was still 177 mph) couldn't reach the target of 130-131 mph. Got to around 124 so serviced. After that it was easy. The difficulty was not winning by too much & raising the botlevel too much. Better driver may be able to do this without servicing, but hey, you have plenty of time. This is not an LTS, only 3 events a day (so far).

2.3 Check the starting grid before the game starts to see where Danica Patrick is. She was in pole for my race, but I read someone else's comment saying she was 3rd there. Like day 1: drafting adds up & try and keep a constant speed and distance to the Patrick car. Should be no problem. You don't actually have to be directly behind Patrick to get the drafting yards counter running. If there is a car on Patrick's bumper and you are directly behind that one, the yards count too. As the NASCAR cars are pretty simple to spin round, getting the car behind Patrick out of the way is maybe easiest.

Best to avoid contact in 2.1 & 2.3 (apart from spinning round the bots). Even when you do get spun round there is plenty of time to recover. If you are hit from behind, releasing the accelarator for a bit will get the car back in control and stop the swerving and sliding. If you are not on manual controls, a hit will usually push you right onto the infield without being able to do anything. Goes for Daytona too.

  • 3.1 - 3 Laps of Indianapolis Oval. PR 48.0. Win and overtake at least 6 times. Use the mechanic to save your bars to avoid servicing during Stage 3. Only 3 other cars, pit them to overtake and then slow to wait for them to catch up. Do this 6 times and your are done. Botting down in the process. Easy.
  • 3.2 - Speed record - Indianapolis Road Course. PR48.0 (183.1 mph for me). No going off track. Not too hard as my car was above PR
  • 3.3 - 3 Laps of Indianapolis. PR 48.0. Achieve a lap time of 48 seconds on any of the laps. Race ends as soon as you had achieved the time required (probably your second lap).
  • 3.4 - 4 Laps of Indianapolis. PR 48.0. Win the event with 10 overtakes, without being overtaken by Harvick - I recommend you back Harvick up at the start so that you have the 10 easy overtakes in a row, and possibly have fun pitting them as you go. Botting for tomorrow! Car serviced.

In general not too difficult a day, although slowing the bots it's not as simple as say in LTS. I find the bots pretty agressive. Time it a bit wrong and you'll be put on the infield or into the wall.

3.1 If you have a mechanic it makes good sense to deploy him here. It will enable you to complete the rest of the challenges without servicing inbetween. You start in 3rd. Let 4th go by and overtake the whole bunch twice. Plenty of time to do it. Plenty of time to spin some cars round too if there's an opportunity.

3.2 Doable by accelarating from the last righthander before coming onto the straight at the end of the lap. Alternatively, turn round at the start and follow the oval anti clockwise until you get to the wall (this doesn't count as off track). Don't go onto the infield. Turn round at the wall, speed up and you should make 183 easily in time to brake at the end of start-finish straight before turn 1 (the right-left chicane)

3.3 Pretty easy. You don't have to draft to get a 48s lap. And don't need to get to first place either. Once you complete a 48s lap the green flag appears. Doing it on lap 2 should leave 4 or 5 bars, doing it on lap 3 you should just be safe from the red bars of damage too.

3.4 The field is tightly bunched. If you manage to hold up Harvick for a bit (he was on the inside in my race) and let a whole stream of cars go by this should be pretty staightforward. I was in 9th or 10th, and never saw Harvick again. I failed a few times whent I just concentrated on overtaking the front 2 or 3 cars. You have to slow to let them pass again and Harvick would slip by with them.

HV2308 (level 248, car at R$ upgrades only 48.5, manual settings, no assists)

4 events but as it's Richmond (small track) pretty short events. Day 4 can be easily done without servicing inbetween.

4.1 For botmanagement I thought it better to finish 5th. 10 seconds of skidding is no problem, hit the turns at speed and turn the wheel sharp left and you should be done in 2 or 3 turns. Then there's plenty of time to pass cars (all tightly bunched) on the outside / high line of the track.

4.2 This was surprisingly difficult. It's 1 lap with a flying start so you have 2 chances to get to 154 mph: the first start-finish straight and the back straight. The problem is not reaching 154 mph (you can hit that on both straights) but slowing down in time to get through the turn afterwards. The slightest contact with the wall will get you red flagged. I couldn't make it through turn 1 if I hit 154 on the first straight. So I took as much speed as possible through turn 1, floored it on the back straight keeping an eye on the speedo and the counter, and as soon as 154 mph was hit slammed on the brakes. The lower you steer into turn 2, the more chance of not sliding into the top wall.

The time you set is irrelevant. I slowed at the finish just in case there is a later event in which you have to beat your previous timetrial time.

4.3 This was easy after 4.2. Stay put for the first lap and then there's loads of time to pass.

4.4 Skidding for 5 seconds but no longer than six requires some accuracy. Getting to 1st place without skidding worked best for me. That can be done inside 2 laps. Then you have 3 laps to do skids. Get some distance from second place so you can concentrate on the skids. You want to avoid having to take risks to overtake the 1st place car and accidentally skidding and exceeding the 6 seconds. See how many skidtime you have left to fill. A big skid all through a turn will give you 3–4 seconds. Not a lot of control. If you need a few tenths of a second, try weaving a bit on the straight. That will result in small skids, a lot of control and give you somewhere in between 0.1 an 0.3 seconds of skidding time.

HV2308 (manual controls, no assists, level 248, PR 48.5 > 49.8 > 50.9 with 5 upgrades on the way > 52.9 with 2 uprades to come)

5.1 End of the road if you want to do it on R$ upgrades only (48.5) - that will get you to around 194 mph avg & 204 mph top. Max. speed at PR 48.5 is 207 mph but apart from downhill stretches, you are always going to end up a few mph topspeed short. As is the case here.

No assists, tried both manual controls and autothrottle (Tilt A & B). Whole race can be done without braking. 2 laps take about 7 bars of damage. You are the only car on track.

Putting on the 3 cheapest gold upgrades 2222222 (49.8, 106 golds) will not do a lot of good either, maybe 195 avg & 205 mph top. You can wait 8 hours to go to 2232233 on R$ after that. Should be doable then.

Seeing this is only day 5, I opted for the engine and drivetrain extras too: PR 50.9 (16/27, 3322222) with 5 R$ upgrades on the way in 8–12 hours (4432233, total GC spent 241, almost 50% of the value of the 500 GC car).

Passed the challenge at 206 mph top (max. speed at 50.9 is 210 mph) and 196 AVG, got green flagged anyway - maybe just hit 197 on the finishline. Time 1.31.915, best lap 43.681.

5.2 Easy. Back to manual controls. 4 cars on track, 1 lap, rolling start. Slowed down after crossing start-finishline to let Patrick by & slotted straight in behind her. Keep your eye on the screen info. You can start speeding up again from when Patrick is about 10 yds back and about to overtake. Bots behind won't be a problem then. Stay in second place. I overtook Patrick and won a few times, but was red flagged. 3-4 bars of damage.

5.3 Tried this one Tilt A, hugging the inside double line. It's probably just doable with PR 50.9, but I could only manage 46.022. Serviced (had a few green bars left) and waited for 3 upgrades to arrive. After, at PR 52.9 it was pretty easy, slowed down a bit towards the line, 45.8 secs.

5.4 Manual controls. You start around 22nd. A little bumping and sidecontact is allowed but I got red flagged when spinning bots round. Make your way forward in between the 2 rows of cars or choose the bottom of the track to get to 10th. No need to finish higher, don't wake up the bots. Once in 10th, just followed the cars in front around. Not too much pressure from behind. Pretty straightforward with car above recommended PR.

6.2 -- Use the draft in this stage, dont pass the bots thinking you will run them down. Attach yourself to the bumper of the car in front of you and bump draft. Make sure to be aware of the lead bot slowing in mid-corner. Try to time the bump when the bot is back on the gas. Do this until you are close enough to draft into the next pack of cars. Once there, pass the cars you need in order to pass the stage. If you still cant catch the next pack, make sure you finish the race so the game records your loss, it slowed the bots just a little bit for me.

For the rest of the stages, just learn to use the draft to make up for the lack of speed. It is your best friend.

  • 6.1 1st 3:11.0 v 3:11.1 Larson, the bots are still braking for the turns, so I stayed close to Danica, I didn’t actually draft Danica, another car got in the way, it was more like stay within 50 yds on Danica, which made the goal easier, once the draft counter was 4,400, then passed for first place in turn 2, and started to hold up and PIT the bots, used 8 bar of damage
  • 6.2 average 199 mph minimum 16th
  1. 9th 1:35.1 failed, v 1:34 Harvick, I must have braked too much and the average dropped.
  2. 14 1:35.4 failed v 1:34.7 Hamlin, average was displayed this run, but only 196 mph reached.
  3. 4th 1:34.955 v 1.34.582 Larson, average reached 199 mph as I approached the line, used 4 bar of damage
  • 6.3 Place at least 12th, with limited fuel, bad event for NOX, I’ll have to try manual controls Wheel B, with the mouse controlling the wheel. Controls Wheel B (flip) with mouse controlling the wheel and keyboard controlling the gas,
  1. 36th 2:29.6 ran out of fuel on the last turn.
  2. Quit, bad start, lots of cars passed me in turn 1.
  3. 12th 2:27.1 v 2:23.9 Hamlin, just made it near the line, before running out of fuel, cars started to pass, I was in 10th, and fortunately only 2 passed by the line. Weaving and lifting helped slow the bots behind, they braked in the turns, so I was able to lift and then pick up a tow (push) again down the straights, with a slight lift and weave to keep them behind. Used 5 bar of damage, 7 green bar remaining.
  • 6.4 Starting 32nd, place at least 20th, space out rolling start.
  1. 27th 3:52 v 3:49 Larson, I hit the wall on lap 1, so only just managed to catch the main pack before the end, - practice run. Restored.
  2. 21st 3:52 v 3:48.3 Logano, I was almost PIT, so lost allot of speed, this run. Restore.
  3. 20th 3:53.5 v 3:49.1 Logano, much better run this time, reached 20th and started to slow the bots, although I still set about the same time as previous runs. Used 7 bar of damage, serviced

Bought level 3 & 4 Engine 70 Curr.Gold.New.80x80.Shifted and R$403,500, I suspect I’ll need more speed tomorrow, so better to buy now than wait 12 hours for R&D to finish tomorrow.

Reward Curr.R.Dollars.New.80x80.Shifted25,000 and 20 Curr.Gold.New.80x80.Shifted

Post-challenge: R$28,533,552 — 1,472 Curr.Gold.New.80x80.Shifted — 169/179 Cars — Level 247

HV2308 (PR 53.3 44332233, lvl 248, no assists) I use tilt A on long empty stretches, tilt B in traffic (pause and change the setting during the race). Tilt A to avoid the (manual / tilt B) throttle suddenly dying on me on long continuous full throttle stretches (dirty touchscreen, sweaty fingers or just FM playing sick tricks ... ?). Using tilt A in traffic will usually cause a long and uncontrolable skid into the barrier or the infield whenever you are slightly bumped by a bot. Prefer tilt B there. When hit, just lifting off the throttle shortly will get the car stable again.

Pretty hard slog today. Typical Daytona: the slightest touch seems to spin you onto the infield or the top wall. Retry retry retry until you get the roll of the dice: a bit of space where you need it, pack of cars spread out a bit, bots not cutting right across you etc.

6.1 Did this one right after the opening of Day 6 at midnight & then serviced afterwards. Drafting 4400 yds no problem at all. If you need more than 1 draft the counter will add them together, doesn't reset to 0. There can even be a car inbetween Patrick and yourself and you will still get the draftyards.

Look out for the blue & white car to find Patrick (she was on my left, inside lane).

The problem is afterwards, tussling in the pack. You need a bit of luck. If you are put on the infield by a car cutting across, or shoved into the wall ... restore / retry. Try to avoid any contact, don't take risks. Keep low to the double yellow lines. To illustrate how busy and bunched up it is: 1st place 3.06.2, I was in 19th 3.07.8, last car 40th in 3.09.4. That's 40 cars packed in 3 seconds!

6.2 Probably the hardest of the day. Multiple retries. Passing two cars at the beginning no problem (use the draft a bit) then it's a flat out empty run to the last back straight and the final turn on lap 2 where you join up with the back of the field. From there on hope you won't be hit. At my PR I needed two laps flat out to make 199 mph in the last maybe 200 yards. Any contact will slow you down big time so avoid that. Even if you aren't spun off, it will take your speed down so much the average will drop below 199 mph. To get to 199 avg, I had to go flat out. Ended up 2nd, only making the 199 just before the finish (in 1.34.6). Avg at the end of lap 1 around 193-194 mph on the line.

According to the comments on the special Daytona 500 special event page, slowing the bots works here (finishing 40th & last a few times, waiting for a while before crossing the finish line ...)

6.3 Easy, 1 attempt. Manual accelaration. Stay in the draft and tap the accelarator to slow down before turns, instead of braking. Made it with little hassle from the bots, although with only 0.1 litre to spare. 10th in 2.25.6.

6.4 Also multiple tries, although not as many as 6.2. Again you need clean passes, no or little contact. Use the draft to get you to 195-197 before the first turn. Keep low towards the yellow lines whenever you can. Get into position before a turn (preferably alongside a car, sidecontact is pretty harmless), keep distance from the car in front, don't bump. 19th in 3.51.5.

  1. 18th 3:06.2 v 1st 3:02 Newman, my mistake, I tried to PIT Earnhart Jr, in 17th, and hit the wall myself. Used 7 bar of damage. Cloud restore and try again.
  2. 15th 3:03.2 v 1st 3:02.5 Newman, better this time, restore and try again. I reached 208 mph a few times, but only 1 registered, next run will do 208 whilst drafting Danica.
  3. 14th 3:04.3 v 1st 3:02.5 Newman, managed to make a hole for 14th, lost 2 places, but I managed to recover to that position, used 7 bar of damage

  • 7.2 Starting 14th, place 8th without damage.
  1. 17th 2:22 v 2:17 Newman, hit the wall and lost all my speed. Used 6 bar of damage. Restore.
  2. 8th 2:20 v 2:17 Newman, better run this time, used the lead car in the start group to boot my speed down the back-straight, then reached 211 mph to bridge to the lead group, once in 8th started to dab the brake to hold up the bots, used 5 bar of damage, 12 green bars remaining.

  • 7.4 1st 3:03.0 v 3:03.7 Patrick, I dropped back and drafted Danica, she was in 3rd, as soon as I started to draft her, she took 1st place, stayed behind for two laps and she drove off the track! I passed and she held up the other bots :) very easy win, used all bar of damage, 0 remaining.

I headed over to Danica Patrick's Champion Cup and collected 100 Curr.Gold.New.80x80.Shifted for sponsorship deals, without running a race, the car is in service, I like that bug :) I’m down 13 Curr.Gold.New.80x80.Shifted from Monday, I can live with that :)

HV2308 (PR 53.3, 4432233, no assists, manual controls, lvl. 248)

The good news on day 7 is that you've done all the hard work on day 6. Track position is pretty far towards the front, so no big packs of cars bumping you, slowing you down and crashing you into walls and off track. In general, time enough to pick your spot overtaking. Inside line on the back straight after exiting turn 1, or outside on the last turn (where the bots slow) are always opportunities.

7.1 Did this one just after midnight right after Day 7 opened. 7 bars of damage, serviced afterwards. That way I managed to do 7.2, 7.3 and 7.4 without going into the red bars of damage. 7.5 can be done unserviced. Drafting yards and getting to 208 mph twice no problem, you'll reach both of those on the first lap. There are two cars at the beginning, use their draft for extra speed. Then it's pretty much an empty track until the final lap, when you close up on a small pack. Avoid contact, clean passes, don't risk being put off track. Finished 13th, 3.03.7. It's not too difficult, so if the "208 mph-counter" doesn't register properly (as happened a few times) just restore and start again.

7.2 Quick and easy. A little contact is allowed. The few cars that are in front of you are pleasantly spread out. No problems. Finished 8th, slowed down at the end. 2.18.8, 4 bars of damage.

7.3 Winning not the problem, only a few cars on track. Time your overtaking here, don't go too early. Predictably the front bot goes at a snails pace on the last long straight and the last turn. If you are already in front, you're trapped: it means dropping your speed to (well) under 200 mph or winning by more than 100 yards. Sit pretty in 2nd or 3rd, use the draft to keep the speed up and wait until the end of the final back straight or the last turn. 1st in 1.34.2, 4 bars of damage.

7.4 The final race. From 1st slow down and speed up again as soon as 2nd place is about 5-10 yds. back. That way only a few cars will pass. You can easily follow those round for 3 laps, keep on their tail, use the draft and cruise past on the final lap. Lots of space to pass, if you draft speed will not be an issue. 1st in 3.03.1, 1 bar of damage remaining.

7.5 You're the only car on track, so this one can be done totally unserviced. Green banner as soon as you do the donut. Or complete a lap at any pace you want. Car in the garage ... !

Start / End Strategy[]

The player has 7 days to complete the 7 stages, the event is 7 days x 24 hours. The first stage will start the time the player starts it, the last stage will end 7 x 24 hours later. As stage 01 is normally straight forward and can be completed without an upgrade or service, it can be started late in the day, it doesn't matter if stage 01 isn't completed the first day, it can continued the following day. Stage 02, will automatically unlock at midnight, but can only be raced once stage 01 is complete. Stage 03 will unlock at midnight the following day, and so on up to stage 7. In total there will be 7 x 24 hours = 168 hours to complete all stages.

For example:

Start Saturday @ 7:30 PM the event will end 7 days x 24 hours later, Saturday @ 7:30 PM,

You need to choose the best time for you to start Daytona 500: The Great American Race event, or more importantly when is the best time for you to end the event!

RR3 Michael P wrote (pre-race tip):
I wouldn't recommend starting the event on the first day, Monday Feb 27th, as many racers, who start as soon as the event opens, complain about bugs, which FM then fix! Instead leave the start a day or two and let other people do the bug testing. Also the tips and details can be filled in by the early adopters, so starting a day or two later gives a better heads up.

Ideally, for racers who are busy Monday to Friday and have the weekend free, the best day and time to start is as late as possible Saturday, as long as it's before midnight, meaning stage 7 of the event can be completed over two days, the following Friday and Saturday. Once started the event can be run, even if it's closed to new racers.

When is the last time I can start this Event?[]

The last entry date is Sunday Feb 26th (UTC), as long as the event is started, before entry closes, it can be run over the 7 days it take to do the 7 stages.

Will this event be added to the race career?[]

FM went though a spell of adding special events to the racing career, the last time a special event was added was September 2015 v3.6, NASCAR Academy was added directly to the NASCAR career, without previously being released as a Time Limited Event (TLE). Previous to that was April 2015 v3.3, with Redline: Origins and MotorFiesta 1. It is therefore unlikely this event will be added to the racing career.

Will the car be available to win in the future?[]

The FORD FUSION (STEWART-HAAS RACING) is available to win if the challenge is completed in 7 days, after Feb 27th the FORD FUSION (STEWART-HAAS RACING) can be purchased.

Can I buy the car?[]

The FORD FUSION (STEWART-HAAS RACING) is available in two series:

This vehicle was added in the Daytona 500 2017 Update (v5.1.0) released in Feb 2017 and is unlocked as soon as Danica Patrick's Champion Cup is unlocked, or by completing the Daytona 500: The Great American Race special event.

This vehicle can be acquired for 500 Curr.Gold.New.80x80.Shifted without a showcase discount

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 The way FM display the date isn't very clear, they use a rounding factor. The days and hours remaining, to start, is changing at mid day or on the half hour. The closing date and time displayed is a cautious closing date and time.

The best time to start is late in the day local time, as the next stage opens at midnight local time.

If the event is started 11PM 25th February (local time), the event can be completed 7x24 hours later, 11PM 3rd March. Allowing almost two full days to complete the last stage.
