General Tips

Strategy

Real Racing 3 is a massive game designed by FireMonkeys (FM) to make you want to spend real money on R$ and Icon Gold. Many in this Wikia community have posted comments what they have managed to reach the end of the game without spending any real money. The bottle neck currency is Icon Gold. Read this article on strategy for more information:

Time Shifted Multiplayer (TSM)

Read the following about how the time shifted multiplayer affects the AI of the bots, why it's important to win by small margins and how to slow bots down:

Methods to slow bots down

Track Recommended method to slow bots Damage Taken
Autocross Each time you run an Autocross event, set a slow time of of 4th or less, either retry or continue and re-enter. If you retry ignore the bot's names, that splash up before the race, they will be changed at the end of the race, you will notice, after each time of running, the target time is increased. If continuing doesn't increase the bot's time try repeating and vice a versa.

Do not set a low time at the line, tilt B will give better control to coast before the line, if you are too quick or brake and wait at the line, smashing the time will increase the AI.
Minimal
Cup
& NASCAR
As soon as the race starts, pause, retire, confirm, either retry or continue and re-enter, if you retry ignore the bot's names, that splash up before the race, they will be changed at the end of the race. Also ignore the bots times on the final screen too, they are based on an average lap time, as you quit their times are based on a standing start, as an average. Instead use the times as a guide, with each retry or continue the bots times should increase. If continuing doesn't lower the bot's time try repeating and vice a versa.

OR If you have a broken car run the race a few times, each time you lose you will still get R$ and Fame, place 4th or less, repeating or continuing and re-entering will lower the bot's.

Once ready to go, get to 1st place as quickly as possible and try to slow the bot's down, either spin them out or park in sharp bends / chicanes and stop them passing. By setting a low time, but still coming first, it's still possible to still lower the AI of bots, think about a Time Trial time, if you set a set a slow time it lowers the AI.

Minimal /None.
Drag Race Start the race, press go and leave the car is first gear, do not click repeat, as this will repeat the current race, against the same bot, instead choose continue, then either retry or continue and re-enter. You will see the opponents will change to lower ones.

Once ready to go, don't undo the lowing work by setting a fast time, instead use the gears to slow the car, once passed the bot go up through the gears, but watch the bot doesn't speed up / close the gap, or if close to the line go down a gear to brake.
Minimal
Elimination Elimination events are one of the best opportunities to lower the bots AI, deliberately lose a few times, do not move at the start (Tilt B), wait for the 20 second timer to run out, then repeat or continue and re-enter. You will see the opponent will change to lower ones. If you retry ignore the bot's names, that splash up before the race, they will be changed at the end of the race.

Once ready to go, get to first place and slow the bots as per the cup event.
None
Endurance Endurance events are one of the best opportunities to lower the bots AI deliberately lose a few times, change the controls to Tilt B, when the lights go green do not move, wait for the timer to count down the 60 seconds. Either retry or continue and re-enter. If you retry ignore the bot's names, that splash up before the race, they will be changed at the end of the race. Note the distance is reducing each time. If continuing doesn't lower the bot's distance try repeating and vice a versa. It's possible to get all 7 bots distance to 1.0mi.

Another point, the online and offline bots can wildly vary on Endurance races, especially with fiends distance'. It's normally much better to race Endurance races offline, before going to the Endurance event go offline (aeroplane mode), if you've already started an Endurance race online, exit back to the main menu, if your logged into FB / G+ / Weibo, goto settings and logout, then force close, go offline and relaunch RR3, bots should now be offline ones.

Once ready to go, don't undo the lowing work by setting a good distance, instead once passed the 1st marker, park up (tilt B) and wait for the timer to count down.
None
Head To Head As soon as the race starts, pause, retire, confirm, either retry or continue and re-enter. Repeat multiple times, ignore the bot's time on the final screen, it is based on an average lap time, you can use it as a guide that the bot's time is reducing.

Once ready to go, don't undo the lowing work by setting a good time, instead once in 1st place, use the same technique as cup events, slow the bot down. Quite often a single bot will not push you once stopped, so you can easily hold it up for 20 seconds, then go for it. Wait at the line to reduced the time set, but still win.
1 lap of damage /None
Hunter As soon as the race starts, pause, retire, confirm, either retry or continue and re-enter, repeat multiple times, each time you repeat the distance to the 1st place will increase.

Once ready to go, don't undo the lowing work by setting a good distance, instead once passed the 1st place marker, slow down and maintain a small distance advantage ahead, when near the line slow to reduce the distance, but still win. It's also possible to spin out the NISSAN SILVIA (S15) to reach 1st, but be careful not to set a top distance. Final point, the NISSAN SILVIA (S15) can be on a different section as track from you, e.g. If 1st place marker is 1,000 yds behind. The NISSAN SILVIA (S15) could be going flat out down a straight while you’re in a hairpin or chicane, so the 1st place marker is going 1,000 yds behind the NISSAN SILVIA (S15), but travels at the same speed so doesn't slow for the chicane! The worst tracks have chicanes before the finish line, like Spa or Le Mans, learn from any losses, track knowledge will help in future events, sometimes waiting by the line is better, but be aware your stopped and 1st place marker could be going 120 MPH.
1 lap of damage /None
Time Trial Set a slow time, in a Series this event's cup does not count towards continuing your race career (i.e. it does not unlock the next Series). However it does count towards completing 100% of the Series.

Running a time trial with a broken car will therefore take no damage and lower the AI of bots.

Note: If you play against friends do not be tempted to upgrade your car and set faster times, as this will increase the AI of bots, you could always do this once you've bought all cars :)
1 lap of damage /None
Speed Record As soon as the race starts, pause, retire, confirm, either retry or continue and re-enter. Note the bot's time is reducing. If continuing doesn't lower the bot's speed try repeating and vice a versa.

Once ready to go, don't undo the lowing work by setting a high top speed, brake as soon as you hit 1st place's speed.

If your still struggling to reach first place, the start finish straight is normally the longest straight, you can do a U turn and drive the wrong way around the track, so once around the last turn, do another U turn, and blast down the straight, with all assists off, it doesn't matter if you fly off track at turn one. If the start/finish straight isn't the longest you can still use the no assists method to hit the top speed, again it doesn't matter if you fly off track. However once you reach 1st place brake, so you don't increase the AI of bots. In special events challenges there is quite often a no off track clause to stop this technique, forcing you to upgrade to hit the required speed.
Minimal /None
Speed Snap Speed Snaps are the same "parts of tracks" as Autocross, except you must hit a top speed at the line so set a top speed of 4th or less, the lower the better, then either retry or continue and re-enter. Note the top speed's are reducing each time. If continuing doesn't lower the bot's speed try repeating and vice a versa.

Once ready to go, do not set a high top speed at the line, tilt B will give better control to feather the throttle once at the 1st place' speed, this takes a bit of practice, smashing the top speed will increase the AI.

If you have 7 days to complete the 7 stages, the event is 7 days x 24 hours. The first stage will start the time you start it, the last stage will end 4 x 24 hours later. As stage 01 is straight forward and can be completed without an upgrade or service, it can be started late in the day, it doesn't matter if you don't complete stage 01 the first day, you can continue the following day. The next stage 02, will instantly unlock once stage 01 is complete, without any restrictions, stage 03 will unlock instantly on completing stage 02, and so on upto stage 7, in total you will have 7 x 24 hours = 168 hours to complete all 7 stages.

You need to choose the best time for you to start Born for Victory event, or more importantly when is the best time for you to end the event!

RR3 Michael P wrote (pre-race tip):
I wouldn't recommend starting the event on the first day, as many racers, who start as soon as the event opens, complain about bugs, which FM then fix! Instead leave the start a day or two and let other people do the bug testing. Also the tips and details can be filled in by the early adopters, so starting a day or two later gives a better heads up.

Ideally, for racers who are busy Monday to Friday and have the weekend free, the best day and time to start is as late as possible Sunday, as long as it's before midnight, meaning the end of the event is the following Sat/Sun. It maybe only open for two or three weeks, as the next release is expected on 1st December. Keep an eye out for adverts to start the event and watch for a countdown to start. Once started the event can be run, even if it's closed to new racers.

Cloud Save / Restore

See the Firemonkeys website for full details on cloud save:

Firemonkeys.com.au Cloud Save FAQ

Firemonkey wrote:
Real Racing 3 automatically uploads your save data to the Cloud Servers once every 12 Hours. This means that if you have lost your save data, you can easily restore your previous game progress (including your purchases) and also transfer this save data between devices using the Cloud Save feature.

During events you can use the Cloud Save and Restore feature to your advantage. Before you start every event, manually do a Cloud Save, if you lose do a cloud restore, this will save a long service after the longer, endurance, cup and NASCAR events.

Once you win do another cloud save before you continue the next event, see the FAQ on Firemonkey's website:

It is very important to wait for the screen to display last updated seconds (or minutes) ago. If you have a message stating backup failed, wait another minute, a wheel will turn in the bottom right corner, the message will show last updated seconds (or minutes) ago and Backup to Cloud button will be greyed out too.

If backup still failed, return to the login screen, log off, wait 10 seconds and log on once more, click continue, wait 30 seconds for the login to complete, then try to backup once more.

If you still have problems: log off, then turn aeroplane mode on, wait 10 seconds, turn aeroplane mode off, wait 30 seconds for the wifi to reconnect, login, click continue, wait 30 seconds for the login to complete, then try to backup once more.

The final thing to try, force close the RR3 app, then with the Wifi on, relaunch RR3, then try to backup once more. If this still doesn't work, the FM server is probably having problems, again.

You can also use this technique to save on spending with gold, for example if you want to spend 1 gold on the mechanic, if you win, the mechanic will be used and the car condition will be maintained, but if you don't come first the gold is lost and the car condition will be reduced, if you cloud restore the car will be returned to it previous state and the gold spend (or even free mechanic) returned.

Note: Before you cloud restore, it is important to login into the same Social Profiles you had previously connected to Real Racing, when cloud saving. Especially if multiple Social Profiles are used!

FAQ

Car Service

How can I service the car when I already finished the day?

If you missed servicing your car after the final event on the day, you can start the next stage and service your car without any restrictions.

If you missed servicing your car after the final event on the day, the soonest you can service the car is at midnight.

The Target is too High, How do I Reduce it?

When the speed or time or distance is too high or fast or long, there are several things that can be done to reduce the target

Make sure you cloud save before you start and after a handful of failed attempts try a cloud restore and retry the next method. Sometimes the AI is still reduced after the restore.

  • Try offline - if you've been online, you must do a force close too.
  • Try online - sometimes the AI target is different.
  • Try repeat, repeat , repeat, again lose by a big margin, don't come higher than 4th.
  • Try loosing by a big margin, but don't retry, instead complete and then re-enter the race - this takes more time but works.

Sorry this takes so much time, but the AI will reduce. With a cloud restore it's quicker than a long service!

For example, I tried 11 times to reach 1st place:

The Game / Le Mans Keeps crashing

RR3 Michael P wrote:
If you are having problems loading Le-Mans: Le Mans is the biggest data track to load, close the game, go off line (aeroplane mode), try a complete showdown (hold the power for 10 seconds, I think), then start back up, launch the game and turn the Heads-up Display (HUD) off. This helps on my Hudl.

I read a post suggesting using the RR3 Graphics app (AKA RR3 GFX) available from the Google Play Store, (then automatically updating it from their website). The poster advised Le Mans used to crash, but when the graphics is set low, using this app, it loads and plays fine:

When is the last time I can start this Event?

Born for Victory starts 20-Oct-2015, with a last entry date 10 days later, 29-Oct-2015. As long as the event is started, before it closes, it can be completed.

Will this event be added to the Series?

My best guess is The 500 will be the next one to be added to the series, I don't know for sure, but there is a pattern to challenges being added to the series. Have a look at the the special events at the bottom of RR3 Wiki:Most Profitable Races Special Events and compare how many have been added to the Series and Special Events to see for yourself.

It maybe months before this event is added to a series, again this is a fairly recent pattern from FM of added past events to series, after three to six months.

Will the car be available to win in the future?

The McLaren P1™ GTR is available to win if the challenge is completed in 7 days, after ?? the McLaren P1™ GTR can be purchased.

Can I buy the car?

The McLaren P1™ GTR has been added to McLaren Generations and its bonus series High-Tech Legends in the Legend racing career. It costs 900Icon Gold

If you start to play the event, all upgrades, customizations and VIP will remain on the car permanently, whether you acquire it from this event or buy it later.
— In-game quote.

What is the minimum PR / upgrades required

RR3 Michael P wrote (pre-race tip):
My recommendation is to start the upgrades as soon as the challenge start as they take 12 hours, there is no need to wait for them to complete before doing continuing the events. As soon as level 1 upgrades are complete start the three level 2 upgrades, they take 1 day. Normally only R$ upgrades are required, as long as you slow the bots, see Time Shifted Multiplayer and Methods to slow bots down)

RR3 Michael P wrote:
Historically most special events can be completed with R$ upgrades, by managing the bots. There are some fixed events, event 6.6 Complete 4 laps in under 7:00, or 1 lap in 1:40 and 7.2 Win with an average speed of 147 mph (237 kph), no time off track or damage! No matter how much bot management, these events are fixed goals. The tracks are unknown, so there is no way to know, yet.

Update: As pointed out by RR3SeanR, the last day is Circuit des 24 Heures.
Le Mans - Pursuit of Victory had event 1.2, a Circuit des 24 Heures race with 140 MPH avg, which was doable with the 2015 LMP1 cars, no upgrades, e.g. Porsche 919 Hybrid (2015) PR 90.5, 234 mph / 376 kph, 2.57 s. 80.0 ft. / 24.3 m., 2.06 g. Looking back at the tips, it was doable with all assists on and high!

McLaren P1™ GTR with R$ only upgrades is PR 85.2, 230 mph / 370 kph, 2.32 s., 85.0 ft. / 25.9 m., 1.54 g. and has to do it 247 MPH, 7 MPH more. It will be faster to accelerate, similar top speed, but not able to corner as well, looks doable, car will probably need to be in good condition.

Finished (twice) with a broken car in under 1:50, Top Speed was ~ 170mph - wasn't able to get the event. Any suggestions? Thx

Quiksilvr reply:
Cross the finish line at over 162 mph, like how you would do in a speed snap. That will do it.

178.145.10.65 reply:
Idem here. I wonder if instead of top speed in the lap, it should be the speed when crossing the finish line. Can someone advise please? Thx

Quiksilvr reply:
Yes, that is what I meant. You have to cross start/finish line at a minimum of 162 mph, irrespective of whatever speed you achieve during the lap.

AlainD974 reply:
Sorry, I haven't seen your previous reply Quiksilvr, obviously I had connection issues from the moment I started to write my answer, and the moment it has been really posted :-p

Anyway, I can confirm that, I just finished under 1min55 crossing the line with a speed over 261 km/h, and passed :-)

I needed to have my car in *green condition to succeed this task.

RR3 Michael P reply:
In Real Racing Guru’s video he crossed the line 1:50.406, going about 256 kph (about 159 MPH), average was green 194 kph (~120 mph).
(Watched the wrong video! :( )

AlainD974 reply:
He actually crosses the line at speed 280 kph which is much higher than the expected 261 kph :-p

I completed this stage in one service, surprisingly easy. Just retried firstone but bots didnt slow down, so took auto mechanic and did it and my suggestion here would be to be careful in straights, i.e., in start finish straight, after first turn and after second turn in straights they will catch up. after these u can stay assured in corners they will be slow. I put 75 meters distance as target and when there let go of accelerator in those straights. even in 75 meters they will come near to u by end of straight so be careful at braking and if they r dangerously close block them, u can see name and distance at bottom thats where they are. if at right move to right of track, or if left then left. be careful they may ram u out. keep 75y targeet and then brake dont be close to them at beginning of these straights. 5.2 was easy here bots became slow after 10 to 12 retires and retries i got my buddy moises gabby. an d he was 1m 22secs speed. then i went for the kill. but before going there i went to pro am hatch back series and a speed record was there with focus i did 6-7 laps there and remembered the track turns and came back and did it in 1.03 itself. ss, elimination, hunter were just basic finished them. Then in less than 3.02 i finished with 15 secs to spare and slowed down at end. finally at beginning of 5 lap i lapped all 9 opponents and then slowed down after lapping we can slow down and let them pass by. won by less than 100 meters at end, car to service and stage complete.

There is a bug in 5.1, after many attempts, keeping the bots well within 100 yds, but still repeatedly failing :(, I finally managed by holding up the bots, generally by slowing in the bends and gently braking on the straights, weaving to stop them passing, which kept them bunched up and within 40 yds!! You must win by the end of the race ?

I was in 5th place at the end of lap 3 and had to finish the rest of the laps. I do not know if you need to stay in better than 5th?

Is there anyone completing this event without gold? The objective does not apply. Are we expected to win against the LMPs? Yes, we are!!! I won the race, completing each and every lap 1st! GOAL COMPLETED without spending any Icon Gold. Cutting corners hepled a lot!

Ah good to know it is 5th... German description still says 6th. 19 minutes wasted.

RR3 Michael P Report

Device: Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Pre-challenge:

  • R$ 39,697,584 1,776 Icon Gold 124/129 Cars, Level 185

Car: McLaren P1™ GTR PR 85.2 10/30 R$ upgrades only.

Controls: Tilt A, steering high, brakes and TC off. Offline

  • 7.1 3:34 v 3:35 Sempers who was driving a 911 GT2 2003, I was surprised I managed to win, I cut the first two corners and maintained the lead, braking by the final chicane. Still 0 remaining.
  • 7.2
  1. 1st 6.0mi v 4.4mi Sempers, 133 MPH :(, I didn't think so, will service. (paid 9 Icon Gold to skip, not recommended, but I don't have time at the moment)
  2. 1st 7.4 mi v 4.4 Sempers, 150 MPH used the tips to tailgate down the straights and brake 3 seconds before the timer ran out. Used 5 (low!)
  • 7.3 1st 8:52 v 8:52 Sempers, very easy, held up the bots, PIT, park in the chicanes etc, the bots are no match for the P1 GTR, even with grip down to 1.4g, hired engineer (not normally recommended but I haven't got the time), used 0, I should have hired the fame agent!
  • 7.4 1st 21:01 v 21:01 Sempers who was driving a Porche 919 Hybrid (2015), Stanton and Lombardi were the top runners driving the NISMO, I PIT, held up and stopped in the chicanes, I know Le Mans very well, having driven there for 10 laps every day for six months ~180 days x 10 laps=1,800+ laps, the LMP1 cars were not a match for the P1 GTR, the must have been base PR, as the P1 GTR with R$ upgrades was slightly slower in the straights, but mighty under braking, as the bots do not use all the circuit cornering was on a par, or possibly better, I was expecting the top cars to leave me in their dust so didn't wast Icon Gold on the Agent and Engineer, I was mistaken! Used all 18, 0 remaining.
  • 7.5 1st 13:54 v 13:55 Sempers. No damage means a little contact with other cars is allowed, heavy contact with bots or barriers isn't, for 4 laps! I had to take my time at the start, not to tangle withe the slow bots, then picked off the faster bots one by one, I finally passed Sempers, who was driving his F40 this time, in the final chicane on lap 2, I so I had to keep my concentration up, I paid the fame agent for a 32,800 payout. 0 remaining.
  • 7.6 1st 3:34 v 3:34 Sempers. Nothing about contact or off track, so all bets were off! I smashed slow bot out of the way, at the start, I was 3rd by the straight, I passed for 2nd in the first chicane, leaving just Sempers in his F40, who was faster down the straight but slower in the corners, I just passed at the final chicane as I had no brakes or TC, so didn't slow, very close finish in a trashed car, should be easy in a serviced one. 0 Remaining.

Post challenge:

  • R$ 40,124,102 1,781 Icon Gold 125/129 Cars, Level 185

I enjoyed BoV, a very good challenge, I didn't spend any Icon Gold on upgrades, the challenges were difficult but doable, I didn't notice any big bugs. I'm going to enjoy the rest of my break content with winning the McLaren P1™ GTR :)

Next event starts in 20 days ~15-Nov, bring it on :)

Benefit

Calculated benefits of the event:

RR3 Michael P calculated benefit:

Date: 20-Oct-2015 27-Oct-2015 Gain
R$ R$ 40,699,122 R$ 40,124,102 R$ -575,020
Icon Gold 1,661 Icon Gold 1,781 Icon Gold +120 Icon Gold
Cars 124 125 +1
Level 184 185 +1

Only R$ upgrades were bought, for both the McLaren P1™ GTR and the McLaren F1 GTR, Icon Gold was spend on the last two days, on 1 repair and on Engineers, due to time constraints, otherwise the Icon Gold reward would have been slightly higher.
